1/2 way through a DVD the player stops. If I take out the battery and replace occasionally the DVD will resume play. Any suggestions?

Our Player does the same thing. Sometimes if we shake it or tap it it will resume playing. Any sugestions??

The DVD freezes while we're watching it or the player won't run it and just says "Loading" while the disc can be heard spinning (as noted in anothe post). I have run it AC and DC and that makes no difference. I have tried popping out the discs, inserting different discs to no avail. I have removed the battery pack and put it back on that that works for a short while.

I have the same freezing problem. No longer under warranty.

  • Anonymous Jul 21, 2008

Mine does the same thing - I can hear the disc spinning and the screen says LOADING but it will refuse to play. I have found that turning off the player, taking out the disc, and spraying condensed air into the player works for me. I have also inserted a laser-cleaning disc and that seemed to solve the problem, but only temporarily. Recently, I've been shaking the player when it freezes mid-movie and I can get the disc playing again.

I've had 2 that have done the same thing. I suspect that the lens is getting stuck along the guide rails as it moves. A little jostling may just fix it, but the real solution is to give up on Sony -- I've seen reports of the same problem in this line going back several years. It doesn't look like it's getting fixed. You can try to open it up and hope that you can clean/grease the guide rails for the lens mechanism, and then pray that you can get everything back together.

We have two of these, both freeze up. The probem is worse with time.

Awful how many people have the same problem with this unit...I followed the advice of solution #1 by moving the tracking mechanism to its full extent in both directions and IT WORKED to fix the "loading problem!"

If someone figures out how to lube the tracking mechanism...please post!

SONY has an exchange program where you pay $150 (approx.) and they send you a refurbished model.  I think that kind of sucks since I paid 179 for mine NEW and the new ones are only 30 dollars more.

Same issue, was advised to send back to Sony, however not to expect a fix. Believe the issue is due to the lens track not being lubricated and sticks.

I had my sony dvd for 5 months it is doing the same thing it sucks... thanks SONY

I have the same problem. I have returned it to Best Buy and they cleaned it (free of charge) but other wise it is out of warrenty and I have used it less than 20 hours total. This is why Samsung is eating Sony's lunch.

I have this problem as well. In fact, THREE separate FX810 players have done this to me. I have only recently come to the conclusion that it is not the tracking of the optical lens. It is the fault of the motor (for lack of a better word) running the spindle upon which the DVD spins. The machine audibly tries to "get back up to speed" when the picture freezes, but it can't seem to stay in constant motion. Therefore, it can't move "forward" on the DVD (think of an LP when the turntable stops spinning) and the picture freezes up. It has nothing to do with the power source, the amount of power it's getting, the lens or the DVD/CD it's playing - I've checked those too. In the meantime, I've discovered that if I knock my knuckle hard against the left side of the machine, it tends to resume playing the DVD. I wish I could fix the problem though...

After going through 2 of this model (the first one didn't do it for almost a year, so we figured that the kids had broken it), I suspect that it's a problem with the tracking mechanism. The lens seems to get stuck in one place and a little shaking may help it to overcome the problem. Sometimes manually moving the lens will get it to restart, but it may just get stuck again in the same spot. Basic solution - buy a different brand (I have seen a long history of similar probs w/ Sony portable players). Ugly solution - open it up (I haven't yet), and hope that there are accessible guide rails that you can grease up, and then get the whole thing put back together correctly.

I have this problem, too! I can hear the disc spinning and the screen says LOADING but it simply won't play.

I have found that inserting a laser cleaning disc will temporarily solve the problem. I have also sprayed a can of compressed air into the player and that works, too.

When it freezes mid-movie, I can shake the player and it will sometimes fix this problem.

My recorded tv freezes when trying to watch them

The whole thing freezes? As in the mouse or keyboard won't even work?

If it's just the video that freezes and you can shut it off, most likely it's a codec issue. Which is dumb since everything you're using came packaged together in the unit. Installing a third party codec pack would solve this issue.

Though, if you're whole PC is freezing when you try to play a video then I have a few other questions to ask you to narrow the potential problems down:

1. Open up the player that opens automatically when you try to watch something, but don't load a video into it. Did everything still freeze?
2. If not, then open a video file that is not something you recorded from TV, like a DVD or a video clip from the net. Did it freeze then?
3. When it freezes, does it freeze instantly? Or does it run for a little bit then freeze. If the latter is the case, what happens in the time between opening the file and the lock down?

I have an HDD rerecorder that now sjips and freezes

HD takes more info and if you don't have a fast enough processor to handle this, that might be the problem.
The age of the recorder would tell you that. If it's 3 years old that might be it. Also how can the recorder record the HD signal unless it has the right tuner??

"freezes" halfway through dvd

sounds like theres an obstuction with the slider rail. This is the small metal bar that the laser assy rides on. Also check the drive system. It could be a gear to gear system or a belt to gear system. There could be also a cable blocking the laser from tracking. This is a hard call without seeing the unit But you have to remeber to unplug the unit before taking odff the top. Good Luck
