Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

Linksys WRT54GS not detected

Hi, I have a Linksys WRT54GS Ver. 6 router. It worked for about 6 months before I moved. I just got around to hooking it up and my computer won't detect it during setup. I cannot access http://192.168.1.1 due to the computer not recognizing the router. I can't update the firmware either since I can't get to the management screen. I reset it a few times and now the power light blinks every time I turn it on. I'll try to be as detailed as I can and thanks for your help.

Windows XP sp2
Cable Internet
Linksys WRT54GS version 6

I'm just trying to connect wired for now. I have other wireless computers to hook up but I'll deal with those once I have the router working.

same thing here. had problems setting it up. had to ask guys at best buy store advice. once i finally did get it working, it worked for a short time. then i started trying to set up a network and it just quit working. now i cant even connect to internet at all when the router is hooked up to the modem. tech support said the actual router itself is broken. but i tried to hook up another one with the exact same results. i am beyond frustrated.

Good news! It's all working perfectly now. Believe it or not all I had to do was replace the power cord. I know it sounds strange considering it had power before, but it setup without a hitch the first try after changing it out. Go figure.

i followed all the steps on the setup disk and when it was searching for the router it said if i had an older linksys router or a non-linksys router to use that setup ionformation that came with it but i just bought the router today. I have regular comcast internet and if it helps im using the router to connect to xbox live wirelessly. i also tried changing the outlet the power cord was plugged into but it still didnt work. the internet light and the wlan lights are both blinking. please help.

I had the same problem and had to keep gonig back to the previous set up screen over and over until it recoginized it. Problem now is when I close the Adviser I cannot get it to open again. It starts to open then suddenly it disappears. I have to reload the software again which is a major headache!

Hi,
I am having the same problem with the WRT54XG4 but i discovered that if you disconect the internet port of your router and leave the ethernet port conected to your computer. You can access to the router and you can upgraded.

Hope it help you

SOURCE: I have a linksys WRT54GS router, every couple of : v7.50.2

I have the same router and had the same problem. I replaced the power supply and then put the unit on a UPS battery. Now it never goes down.

I have found that it 'gets clogged' .. I mean that the buffers dont get cleared if I do a lot of inbound video streaming. I can still make it hang by doing that, but the reboots have stopped since the UPS.

SOURCE: set up router/modem as instructed

Problem can't be solved as described, a fixer would need more details.

What kind of modem/router is it?
What instructions are you working from so far (you say, "as instructed" so I take it you're looking at a Quick Start Guide of some sort?)
How are you connected to it?
What http address are you going to (E.g. some routers use 192.168.1.1, others 192.168.1.254 or various alternatives)
What happens when you enter that address on a browser?
Have you set your computer's address to a nearby address so it can talk to the route?

If I had one guess with not enough information, I'd say you need to set your PC to an address one different from the target you're going to.

Help

You do not need the manual or CD

1. Turn off both the linksys and your modem
2. Turn on your and wait for the usual lights to turn solid
3. Turn on the Linksys and wait 30 secs
4. Press the button on the front to the left. It does not look like a button but flashes while it is finding an ip address
5. now connect with an Ethernet Network Cable and make sure the internet is working
6. Next Setup the Wireless Encryption, if you don't know how to do this, post and I will help
7. Disconnect the cable and Connect Wirelessly

If you have limited connectivity then next try this: http://www.howtofixanything.co.uk/howto-269.html

Go to the linksys website at www.linksys.com, select your router, and you should find a link offering a driver download.

Here's the Linksys step-by-step guide for your router:

http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3686&lid=5531661879B01

Are you connected to the wireless router with an ethernet cable? Generally, you want to hook it up this way first so you can configure it. If you are hooked up with a cable open your web browser and type in the following address: 192.168.1.1 this should get you to the router's web page. The default login for linksys is username: blank, password: admin

See if you can connect to the router in this way. If you can then we can go through the next steps or you can try using the above link.

Good luck.

Linksys wrt54gs cant connect..

hi try this before you hit the reset botton. Check if Windows XP firewall or 3rd party firewall are blocking the pings, and temporarily disable them just to be sure. The WRT54GS has a feature called "AP Isolation", It's on the "Wireless -> Advanced Settings" page. You won't need it for home use so turn it off as well. Last thing, do a firmware upgrade. Hope it's helps Good luck.
