Question about Refrigerators

Fridge/freezer warm, no fan, light's on

A couple of days ago the fridge/freezer apparently stopped working. I was not home but the dog sitter reported finding a puddle on the floor (assuming from the melted ice and such) and both sides warm. Later in the day she plugged it in, it appeared to be working, and by Thursday morning all was well. This morning I got up and opened it...it's warm. Both sides. Light works, water works, but there is no fan, nothing that I can hear running. I unplugged it and plugged it in...nothing. Luckily not a lot of food in there...but what can I do?

Adding that it's a Whirlpool Gold GD25DF side by side unit.

And if it overheated, do I just leave it unplugged for a bit?

Nothing feels overly warm. I guess I'll leave it unplugged for a bit. Can it overheat if it's really really empty?

To cap it off, I have a showing on my house today. I cleaned the inside with baking soda and have a bowl of it inside the fridge part...at least that stopped the smell. But I guess I'll have to get someone out here tomorrow or so to fix it. SIGH.

no but if the fan next to the compressor is not working the compreser would overheat, The compressor could just be bad and after running for a few hours shutting down

Fridges stops working randomly but the freezer works. Then the fridge starts working after a couple of days

When the fridge stops working, can you hear the fan operating inside the unit? It sounds like you have a failing evaporator fan motor. This fan motor circulated cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator.

My Samsung model RB1855sl shows the temperatures for the fridge and freezer in celcius. Can you tell me what appropriate temps would be for them to be working? I loaded up with gorceries a few days ago,...

the freezer should be arond -20 degrees celcius and the fridge aroud 5 degrees celcius
There could be a problem with air flow
the fan in the freezer has probably stopped or the air flow into the fridge is probably blocked
You could have a defrost problem. this would allow ice to build up in the freezer blocking off ai flow.
A technician can help you with that

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Might be time to call a pro

Freezer works, fridge doesn't cool

Probably excessive ice in the condensor. Likely defrost thermostat or defrost heater problem.

What happens is excessive ice keeps airflow from the refrigerator part of the unit.
