Skype says it can't find a webcam but I'm suppose to have a built in webcam. What do I need to do?

You can try using Compatibility mode. Otherwise there are only win 7 drivers. Update to Win 7 (which the computer came with) and you will have no problems.

My son has a Mecer notebook W765C i3 laptop. He has now installed skype on it and wants to use it when he is at Varsity. The only problem is that Skype cannot find a webcam. (Its suppose to have a built in cam) I've checked Device Manager but cannot find a webcam. I have no idea what webcam it has to try and find a link to download the software/drivers.

Does anybody have an idea or perhaps have a link where I might find it ? It's running 7 Home Premium.

Make sure the WEBcam driver is installed.
When the WEBcam works then the fault is with the Skype configuration. Sometimes the WEBcam settings drop off and the WEBcam need to be selected again. Open Skype - Tools - Options - Video Settings and select the installed WEBcam - Save the settings.

This model Acer laptop does not have a built-in microphone.
To use Skype you need a micphone or a WEBcam with a built-in microphone.
Logitech have this type of WEBcam.

I have the same laptop, and i got the same problem with the camera, but see what i found. The built-in camera is located in the same piece of plastic that camera does. Then, if you open/close the laptop so many times, this seems to damage the camera connection and is like it doesnt have any camera. So when i want to use the camera, i simply push with my thumb around the camera, and run the program/chat or anything that i will use the camera. Of course, you first look at the drivers, if correct , then try the other solution i post. And theres no built in microfone. Hope it solve it.

It worked once after the computer has been upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 but then after problem was reported from a viewer on skype saying that the image coming from the cam is pixelated the computer was rebooted and cam is not working since. ...

Solve this problem

Using a 3rd-party software like Skype or Yahoo! Messenger, you need to configure those software in order to use your webcam.

Open YM and go to Preference (Options for Skype)
Go to My Webcam and configure your software to use your built-in webcam and click save

For Skype, Select Options then Video settings...

Don't forget to click save after setting the webcam.

in your default device have to choose rigjt microphone/earphone. If using Skype go to Tools>Options>Audio settings and check microphone end speaker configurations. I suppose you have installed certain drivers for your hardware.

You need to check the Video Settings in Skype.
Start Skype - click on Options - Video Settings, select the WEBcam that is is installed on the laptop (if it is not listed then the WEBcam driver is not installed) and under Automatically Receive Video from - select Anyone or Only people in my contact list.
