Power light flashes

My camcorder switches on ok and when i want to record or play back a tape the power light starts to flash and then after a minute swithes itself off

  • Anonymous Jun 12, 2008

When yout turn the camera on to either record or playback, it will work for a little while and then the light will start flashing and it will switch itself off. We are missing the little round round battery compartment that slides in near the lcd screen, could this be effecting it? It also is starting to chew the tape when you record.

It could be the common moisture sensor problem.
Take the base cover off by removing the 4 screws (3 on base - 1 under LCD). There will be two small copper contacts under this cover toward the top/middle. Either just blow on them or if that does not work clean them with alcohol spirit or similar, put the think back together and power up and that should do it - worked for me.

When i try to record it dosent let mi and in the screen it shows a tape with a line through it. what do i do?

The tape with line through it indicates that there is some issue with tape/tape mechanism. I believe that the tape symbol is as follows:
shajanrs_45.jpg

If the tape warning indicator flashes slowly, the reason may be.
  • The remaining tape becomes shorter than the length of five minutes recording.
  • No tape is inserted
  • The write protected tab on the cassette is set to LOCK(red).
If you're confirmed that the reason is not the first and second, it should be because of the write protected tab on the tape.
Don't worry, I will help you with that. Please see the below picture to view the LOCK slide switch:
shajanrs_46.jpg

If the tape with line symbol flashes quickly, it indicates that the cassette has run out of tape.
If the issue persists, please follow the troubleshooting steps and check if that helps.
  1. Reinsert the tape.
  2. Reset the Camcorder by pressing the reset button behind the LCD panel using a sharp pointed object.
  3. Perform a power resetting
  • Turn off the camcorder. Disconnect AC power adapter. Remove the battery pack.
Move the POWER switch to the CAMERA position for 15 seconds.
Move the POWER switch to the OFF position.
Reconnect the AC power adapter or reinsert the battery pack.
    Turn on the camcorder.
If the issue persists, service may be required.
I hope performing the above steps should resolve the issue.
If you need any assistance please get back to me.. Thanks for understanding.

I cannot record, in the corner where it says record, standby, it flashes the number C:31:40 I have a new TDK Hi 8 120 and it keeps flashing. Please help, thank [email protected]

when problem occur while cam is operating, the self-diagnosis function starts working, and may display the service mode display code. in your case, C:31:40, pertains to a part of the cam tape compartment mechanism called the drum that doesn't start up. issues could prevent you from recording, playing back tapes, rewinding or fas forwarding. t/s steps are: try diff tapes esp. w/prev recordings, reset cam (press reset button while cam is on, located just below the menu button, in the panel where the lcd screen goes to), power reset (remove batt and ac adapter and leave cam w/ any power source for at least a minute). if issue persists, unit will require repair. hope this helps.tnx:)

Flashing eject sign error appears when camcorder got problem in its mechanism, please put another tape and check.
Remove battery from camcorder for couple of minutes, put battery back and try.
Also observe does tape reels turns reverse and forward when tape loaded in mechanism.
If problem still exist, qualified camera tech will fix it because it is not user level repair.

Sony ccd trv218e, recording & playing back does'nt work

I had that problem also and I found that using smaller tapes helped. I was using the 120 minute tapes, I think they may be too heavy.

"menu" button not working-wont record or play back tapes

when the light flashes it means that there is an error definetly.
turn the menu button on off position first and remove the battery.
reinsert battery and turn on recording mode.
Try to remove the tape and reinsert it and see if the operating light is clear.
let me know if the functionality is restored.

Eject light comes on after I start playing the tape

ksmitheram,

I had the same problem with my camcorder just awhile ago. This can reflect a low battery. Try plugging in the camcorder for a couple of hours without using it. Then try recording or playing back the tape with it plugged in. Unplug it and check again. If this does not work you may have to replace the tape head.

Flashing power light

same problem, my nv-ds50 powers up, but with the with power light flashing in twos and then powers itself down. The menu button sometimes works briefly when it's powered up. I had been transferring video back to mini dv tape from the pc (pinnacle studio 8) when I first encountered the problem and was wondering if I damaged something in the camera by powering up/down in the wrong sequence using my firewire cable?? I also seem to have a lower case "f" to the right of the timecode when it powers up - & cannot find any documentation as to what that could mean (although perhaps it's a "t" for timecode?)...I tried the c.reset option in "display setup" a few minutes ago - no luck then...but hey bingo, now I seem to have it back on line again ...go figure!

Won't record or play anymore

You need keep the power plugged in and allow the internal battery to recharge as it may have discharged due to lack of use.
Alternativley the internal battery may need replacing by a qualified engineer. You should know if this is the problem as it usually denoted by a red flashing battery with a line striking through it.
