I have a LG GRF218NI refrigerator. Its freezer has been going on and off (express freezer) yesterday half day and all night only stopping this morning. Does need a service?

Check the freezer:
If your fridge does not have an auto-defrost function then excessive ice-build up in the freezer can cause the beeping alarm. If you see a lot of ice build-up in the icebox or freezer, switch off the fridge and let the ice thaw. Once the fridge is thawed, the beeping should stop.

check to see if the wire got broke. If not you might have a bad compressor

What is the make and model of your fridge?

the refrigerator is not defrosting automatically the vent is geting ice up blocking the air flow when you unplug it the refrigerator defrost and start working like normal they may be a problem with the motherboard

Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will enter Test Mode 1. Test Mode 1 allows diagnostic operation of the compressor and freezer fan, stepping damper open, defrosting heater off and display LEDs all on.


Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time while in Test Mode 1 and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will enter Test Mode 2. Test Mode 2 allows diagnostic operation of the compressor and freezer fan, stepping damper close and defrosting heater off.



Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time while in Test Mode 2 and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will enter Test Mode 3. Test Mode 3 allows diagnostic operation of the compressor and freezer fan off, stepping damper close and defrosting heater on.



Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time while in Test Mode 3 and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will reset to the state prior to entering test mode.



Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet, then plug it back in to reset the appliance after coming out of test mode.


There is no reset button.

1) Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will enter Test Mode 1. Test Mode 1 allows diagnostic function of the compressor and freezer fan, stepping damper open, defrosting heater off and display LEDs all on.

2) Touch the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time while in Test Mode 1 and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will enter Test Mode 2. Test Mode 2 allows diagnostic operation of the compressor and freezer fan, stepping damper close and defrosting heater off.

3) Press the "Express Freezing" key as well as the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function together while in Test Mode 2 and hold for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will go into Test Mode 3. Test Mode 3 allows diagnostic operation on the compressor and freezer fan off, stepping damper close and defrosting heater on.

4) Press the "Express Freezing" key and the "Colder" key of the Freezer Temp function at the same time while in Test Mode 3 and maintain for 3 seconds. The refrigerator will reset to the state prior to entering test mode.

5) Unplug the •Lg refrigerator from the wall outlet, then plug it back in to reset the appliance after coming out of test mode.

first try a total defrost/clean vents and drain holes.then switch on and wait 24 hours for unit to settle.if no go then yes

The compressor is overheating and not starting. Could be just the start relay. If this happens again try unplugging it for about an hour then it should work for a while. Heat between doors is normal this is an electric heater designed to keep the doors from sweating. You just noticed it because the refrigerator wasn't cold.
