I suggest to first open up and then Completly backup all of your Local C Drive which is in My Computer and then do a Restoration of your Operating System. Be sure to put your Operating System disk in the cd drive and then restart your computer. This will make your PC Opearting System New Again. Then install your Programs back IE: Printer, Scanner, Office, Quickbooks, Games or whatever Y O U installed that did not originally come with the computer... If your computer was mine, THIS is what I would do. best of luck.. JoeGuitar

My CQ61-411WM doesn't boot anymore. Symptoms:

Hi

If the graphics card was intact, the external monitor test would have given you an image.

Unfortunately, this seems like a graphics card problem common to this manufacturer (google HP Compaq Notebook Graphics Problems).

This fault can be repaired only by specialist laptop repairers with specialist tools.

The repair is called Reballing the Ball Grid Array.

Reballing has a marginal success rate and even if successful, the fault can reoccur. A typical professional repair warranty would give you 3-6 months post-repair warranty.

Sometimes the surface of the graphics chip is too damaged to repair.

This repair can be expensive as it may involve several time and labour intensive rounds of disassembly, repair, reassembly and testing.

If you do opt for repair, ensure that the repairer is a specialist, properly equipped with an Infra Red Workstation, experienced in this specific type of repair, is willing to do a No-Fix-No-Fee Repair and offers a Repair Warranty.

If the laptop's warranty has expired and the repair cost seems high to you, it may be time to consider a new laptop.

Sorry for the bad news.

Hope this helps.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
You need to put original CD/DVD of your operating system while repairing.

To repair your computer using Startup Repair follow these steps:
  1. Boot into Vista installation DVD
  2. Choose your language settings and click Next
  3. Click Repair your computer
  4. Choose your operating system and click Next. This should bring up System Recovery Options.
  5. Click on Startup Repair
Startup Repair should now start diagnosing your system to identify the root cause of the failure. Once it has identified the root cause, it would automatically start repairing your computer. If you are curious to know what Startup Repair did, you can click on the details link and see which tests Startup Repair ran to diagnose the problem.
After Startup Repair has finished the repairs, click Finish to reboot your computer.
Your computer should now be able to boot normally into Vista!!
Note -- If your computer cannot boot into Vista even after repairs, then go back to System Recovery Options and run System Restore.
That's it! This is how you use Startup Repair for most unbootable situations.
