No sound

Try reinstalling the audio driver.
The same model ThinkPadcan have different types of network, video and audio drivers and unless youknow exactly which one is installed in your ThinkPad, you need to download allthe drivers and install each driver until you find the right driver. When you download thedrivers, write down the device driver and it's file name so you have a recordof which driver you are installing and which directory the unzipped files arelocated on your hard drive. Go to the IBM/Lenovo WEBsite - support/download page and download the latest Windows XP or Vista devicedrivers for your model computer, Use this link: - http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?template=%2Fproductselection%2Flandingpages%2FbrowseByProductLandingPage.vm&sitestyle=lenovo&brandind=10&validate=true You can download thevarious drivers and then you click on and run the various driver files, they willthen unzip and expand into a sub folder on C:\drivers Then install the variousdrivers from this folder (run the set-up file).

No Sound on my IBM t43 Thinkpad

all hardware requires a driver
driver is an information file that tells the operating system how device works
without the driver the device cant work

when you reformatted you must not have installed sound drivers

here is a link to Windows XP version of the sound drivers of your laptop

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/1ya210ww.exe

download it
install it
reboot

and you will have sound

if you have a different operating system than windows XP, tell me and i will give you link for that

Windows Vista business & Home Basic

Hi,
No you can't downgrade once Vista business is installed, what i do recommend you do is when Vista business asks you for the product key, if you input "your" key for home basic it should theoretically install home basic for you as most of the install DVD's are multi installers (basic, premium, business and ultimate)

See if that helps you.

My ibm thinkpad t43 displayed a message "hard error D0014" on a small blue screen. when i shut it down by pressing the power button for a few seconds, it restarted. but the programs won't work.

This could be a problem, not sure if its a software related or if the hard drive is bad. If you can find a windows xp cd. Try and wipe out the hard drive and install windows xp on it. If it goes thru then you'll just need the drivers. If it errors out on you then you know its a problem with the hard drive and you'll need to replace it. If you get windows xp installed on it, let me know and I'll help you with the drivers.

Is there a way to master reset the IBM T43 Thinkpad

No it's not possible to do it with just a button or replace it to factory settings.
The T43 Comes with WinXP or OS/2 Warp or Windows 2000 Pro.
If you wanted to reset it you basically would have to format the harddrive.
You can get a older version of WinXP which is still supported by microsoft or either that you can format it and sell it without a operating system.
Or you can add/remove items you installed and remove personal info delete pretty items much within windows itself.

Same problem, wireless does not work after reinstalling windows (thinkpad t43)

This is generally a simple driver glitch. Uninstall the wireless drivers from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the wireless and reinstall the drivers.
