Question about Samsung Digimax A503 Digital Camera

SD card causes camera to not turn on

I have a 1g card and a 4g card. one is a lexar, which I know is busted. and the other is a PNY, that I just got yesterday and works perfectly fine.
regardless of which one i put in, however, the green light comes on for a short period of time, kind of lik ethe common beebing and turning off problem. but it doesn't beep and the screen doesn't change at all. just stays black.

now the clincher, when i take the SD cards out, the camera works perfectly fine on internal memory. I haven't dropped it or done anything stupid with it, so it shouldn't be a hardware malfunction. i probably have lost the warranty information anyway.

is there something i can do?
or do i need to take on extra hours at work to just buy a new one?

It may be a problem since you are using a brand of SD card that is a lower grade. I try to only use Sandisk which is a little more expensive and a trusted name but it does make the whole difference.

What kind of memory card do I use

You may use any SD card up to 2GB in size (4GB if you can find any). Make sure you get an SD card and not an SDHC card, as the latter are electronically incompatible and will not work. The brand and speed won't make much difference, though a faster card may download faster to your computer if you use a compatible card reader. I'd also stick with the major brands, such as SanDisk, PNY, and Lexar.

Whats a good memory card for the cannon powershot A410

You can use any MMC or SD card. Be careful not to get SDHC or SDXC cards, they won't work in the A410. The brand doesn't matter, though I'd stick with the major brands, like Lexar, PNY, and SanDisk. The speed doesn't matter much either, so I wouldn't waste money on fast cards.

What sd card should i use withthis camera

You may use any SD card up to 2GB in size or any SDHC card up to 8GB in size. The speed won't make much difference, unless you use a card reader to download photos. Stick with any of the major brands (such as Lexar, PNY, or SanDisk) and you'll be okay.

I cannot format my brand new SD card with my Canon Powershot 970 IS. It is a 4G, however i just tried an old 1G and it will not format that one either .... perplexed.

Try another type of SD card as the Canon camera are very choosy with regards to SD card. All I want to say that, not all SD card will work on Canon camera. Or if you insist of using your SD card you have to format it in your computer using Canon formatting software which is downloadable in the website.

What size and male of memory card do i need for a coolpix s4000?

The S4000 uses SD cards up to 2GB in size and SDHC cards up to 32GB in size. Don't worry about the make of the card, as long as you stick with the major brands (Lexar, PNY, SanDisk, etc).

Tried to unlock Lexar SD 2GB and Lexar SDHC 4 GB - No luck

First of all, the 4GB card will never be able to work in your camera. Check on its face. It likely says SDHC, and SDHC cards as this format came out after your camera was designed (I know it looks exactly like a normal SD card, but it's not).

Now the 2GB card should work with your camera as it is a standard SD card. Remove the card from your camera. Look on the side of the card for the tiny slide switch, and slide it to the other "unlocked" position. Reinsert it in the camera, and see if that corrects the problem.
