Why is it important to know different beeps when dealing with computers?

Beep codes come from a piezo speaker on your motherboard and identify problems with the power or configuration of the motherboard.

Different motherboard manufacturers use different beep codes, so Googling the words "beep codes" along with the model number of the motherboard (an etching on the board itself) will usually locate your results.

In any case, go to the website of the motherboard manufacturer to find the information, ususally in support or downloads to find the manual for your specific motherboard.

Most common beep codes:
  • . Missing keyboard
  • Can't find CPU
  • RAM missing, improperly installed or failing

Compaq d290mt beeps continously....on startup

Beep code are tied to the BIOS. You might have to open up the computer and look for the information on the motherboard. http://www.wikihow.com/Identify-the-Motherboard.

If your PC was operational, you could use Speccy (freeware) or Belarc Advisor to learn what the BIOS is.

Although I can point you to some beep code sites, you still need to know what BIOS you have. You might track that at the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Here are some beep codes but until you know the BIOS, you are shooting in the dark. Some will guess "bad ram", others will say "bad power supply." But these are guesses unless you know what the beep code actually means.

Hi,
Beep codes denotes that there is some harware problems in your system. You can correct it once you get the meaning for beep codes. you dont need to replace the whole motherboard.
The exact reason for the beep code can be found only in your motherboard manual, as this varies among motherboard models. so please refer your motherboard manual to know about the reason for this kind of beep.
I hope this is useful to you
Thanks
