Question about Sony Handycam DCR-TRV460 Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Downloading Video Hello, I am not able to download videos from Hi8 casettes onto CD-R as recommended by Sony. This model does not have the option to burn dvds. I do not know if the problem is with the hard drive Im using. Since I have been able to create music cds on CD-R on a CD-R (general, non music cd) using the same laptop, I believe this should not be a cd burning problem. But then, I may have missed something subtle as well. Or, may I have not considered the option of downloading latest firmware that may allow me to burn dvds instead of cds? I would greatly appreciate any feedback. I need to download my son's videos and I'm even starting to consider buying a latest camcorder... Cheers

Hi,

In order to burn a DVD you need to use the 1394 interface. If you use the USB interface then you have the option to only burn VCD. However, i could not even burn the VCD using the USB interface. It refuses to recognize that there is a new CD-R in the PC.

Can anyone help please?

I have a sony ccd trv 138 hi8

it seams that it has a usb streaming /connection feature..so all you need its a driver and a cable to connect it to a computer ..

all I found its a driver for hi8 camcorders but it seams that is for windows 2000 ...anyway some drivers work on xp just fine even if they were build for 2K ...its worth a try ...if not ..you can get a alder cheap computer and keep it with 2000 ( if we dont find the xp driver ) ...just for downloading and operating this camcorder...

Try these links. The second link may contain software that you can use for your camera although I did not see your specific model listed, Sometimes you can use a closer model numbers software and it will work the same.
Manuals and contact support link. As Sony to send you the cd or provide you with a ftp link: http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/camcorders/v8c/v8c.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=CCD-TRV208E

Putting on computer

Hi8 camera has analog video signal / format and needs to be converted in digital format for PC storage /use.
Best option available is to hook up Hi8 camcorder with DVD recorder and burn movies on DVD. Now you have digital files of movies and can put in PC.

Convert a Hi8 to cd

Hi 8 tapes are analogue and need to be converted to digital before a DVD can be made of them. You can pass the signal through a digital video camera to the computer to convert them. Only very short videos could be copied onto a CD as most video files are much larger than a CD's capacity.
I'm not sure about digital 8 but maybe the camera only has an analogue output? If the lead goes to RCA plugs - that is analogue. A firewire socket means a digital output.

Transferring Hi8 to my PC

Download Driver
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-matrix.pl?upd_id=1452

Install then download and install a video program like movavi videosuite or ulead videostudio (i personally recommend movavi).

Plug in the camcorder and switch it on, put it on play/edit and play the video, press record or capture in the software and let it record!

once the video scene in the camera is done, stop the recording and do what you wish!

GOOD LUCK!
