Exact the same problem with AT&T and this modem. Doesn't matter if a computer is connected at all. In the middle of the night when all computers are turned off it still restart. Sometimes 4-5 minutes between each time, sometimes 4-5 hours. No difference even if several computers is connected and dowload heavy things. Just keeps restarting whenever it wants to. Not connected to any powerstrip, tried several locations in the apartment. Anyone got an idea? When searching the internet I kind of got a feeling that there are others with this problems...

Well, im connected through ethernet and recently.....i used a PSP through wireless and the computer through ethernet, it stayed on much longer that it does with ethernet, I have the latest firmware and resseting it to factory settings leaves it exactly the same. 2wire tells me to get a new one online but when i call them, they tell me to call AT&T and tell them that it is a problem with my connection.

Same issue, tried dsl after disatissfaction with roadrunner customer service. only to discover that att dsl was horible and their customer service was even worse. dont waste time or money with this garbage. I spent many hours on the phone going through automated ******** only to discover every time that noone in att could solve this problem... so for me its bye bye dsl. i pay thm to provide one service for me. when it doesnt work and they can fix it i have no use for it. i have 0 tolerance for incompitent ********.

Gateway reboots constantly. DSL and Internet LEDs turn red

system does not respond to password and appears to have reset to a new one

  • dawg21 Jul 29, 2008

ANOTHER COMMON ISSUE: If your modem keeps restarting once the power LED turns solid green, the most likely cause is the power adaptor. Replace the power adaptor and all should be well again.

    2) How are you connected? (through wireless or ethernet)

    Thanks!

Okay Junior,

I've had a lot of customers have known issues with the 2Wire Modem/Router. The problem is its trying to be a router, while at the same time a modem. That's like trying to use one of those shampoo and conditioner all in ones - its not gonna work!

Your best bet is to ask them for a regular DSL modem, and then buy yourself a (preferably) NETGEAR router.

Please let me know if this helps. Take care and good luck!

Many times, updating the firmware of the router fixes that kind of problems or resetting it to the factory settings. you can download firmwares from 2wire site and the in the router settings windows update the firmware.

then it stil could be a probelm with your line or the gateway itself, try to plug it to another phone socket and see what happens.

I have an at&t 2wire 2701hg-b but i dont have at&t internet i have charter and i am not able to figure out how to get my internet to work with this router please help

att 2 wire is a Adsl Modem (Requires a telephone line jack to get the signals) but charter communication is a cable internet service (not DSL) , Requires a TV cable service for internet .
These two jacks differs and there working differs ..
Means : Att works with the username and password type of authentication but charter requires the MAC address of modem for authentication .
Therefore for a cable internet 2wire 2701hg-b modem cant be used . But yes in case charters has username and password authentication and works with the telephone jack in house then its possible to use the same modem.

that is typically a bad username in the modem, you will have to put there temp user name in for registration for the DSL. and after that you can put the username into the modem that you created during the registration process. Should be taken care of.

do you also have AT&T? att2wire 2701hg-b gateway is configured to work with AT&T only that's why if you have a different ISP, it will not work for you. Most ISPs provide modems that are configured solely for their service.

Can I use 2WIRE 2701HG-B router in COX internet connection

No. A router has 2 main interface types WAN (for the internet connection side, and LAN (for the home network side) the 'LAN' side often has up to 4 ports and wireless connectivity for the home network.

The most common routers available at electronics retail use a CAT-5 connection for the WAN ports and the LAN ports. Your DSL modem/router uses a phone line input for it's WAN port, which uses a signal type that is incompatible with the cable modem output.

If COX doesn't offer a router with the cable modem package, you can go and purchase and common brand of home networking router, and attach it to the output of the cable modem.

Dsl light flashes red constantly

Whenever your dsl light on the 2wire modem turns red,it only means that there is a problem with the dsl connection to the modem. Here are some ways on how you can isolate the problem

1. check if your modem is properly connected to the phone jack by unplugging and replugging you phone cable
2. try to reboot the modem
3. if still getting the same lights, contact your ISP
