One would expect that the ink is dry or that the sensor on the cartrdige is sending incorrect information, if you say the cartridge is dry. If it was new and empty you could consider getting a refill kit but probably won't help you. Contact your local pc shop and see what their cheapet printers cost - with cartridges. Could be cheaper than one cartridge!

I have just installed a new black cartridge and when I try to print the printer says 'left cartridge missing'. It is not missing and is installed correctly. If I override the command the print

Please remove the cartridges from the printer. Take a dry lint free paper towel and gently wipe the contacts on the back of the cartridge (not the bottom from where ink is present). Wipe the contacts inside the printer (on cartridge carrier). Please snap the cartridges back into the cartridge carrier and please try to print a printer self test.

  1. Store the cartridges in an air-tight container or dispose of them properly.

  2. If you are installing new ink cartridges, remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

  1. Insert the new ink cartridges. Make sure the color ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the black ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

  1. Snap each lid closed.

WHILE TEST PRINT CYAN INK NOT SHOWING WHAT SHOULD I DO SIR

This issue will only occur if an ink cartridge(s) is or was installed inthe wrong position (slot) in the machine. When a cartridge is installed, the ink tube system is filled with the ink from the cartridges, to prepare the machine for printing. If the cartridge is inthe wrong position the tube will fill with the wrong color.

NOTE: If you just installed or replaced the ink cartridges and your printed documents are missing colors please refer to the solution - I just installed or replaced my ink cartridge and my printed documents aremissing colors. What can I do? Blank

To resolve this issue you will need to clean the print head.

NOTE: It may require 10 to 15 cleanings to clean the ink tubes and print head. During the cleaning process, the ink in the cartridge(s) will be consumed. Additional ink cartridges may be required to completethe cleaning process.

1. First verify the position of the ink cartridges:

a. Open the ink cartridge cover and check to make sure the ink cartridges are in the correct order.

b. Starting from the left side, the correct order is Black, Yellow, Cyan(blue), and Magenta (red).

- If the ink cartridges are installed in the correct order, close the ink cartridge cover and continue to STEP 2.

- If the ink cartridges are not in the correct order, remove the ink cartridges that are installed in the wrong position by pressing down on the release lever(s), located above the ink cartridge and remove the cartridge(s) from the machine.

Next, reinstall the ink cartridge(s) in the correct position in the machine by gently pushing the cartridge in until it clicks.

When all the cartridges are installed, close the ink cartridge cover.

2. After closing the ink cartridge cover, the LCD will prompt - Did youchange XXXX (XXXX = the color) This message will be displayed for ink cartridge that was removed. Press the - (Minus Key for No). This willkeep accurate data of how much ink is left in the cartridge.

6. The machine will need to perform cleanings to flush out the incorrectcolor or dried ink from the ink tubes and print head.

a. The LCD will ask you BLACK OK. If black is fully printed and is the correct color, press + (Plus Key for Yes). If it#s blank, missing dashes or is the incorrect color, press - (Minus Key for No).

b. The LCD will ask you COLOR OK. If any of the 3 colors (yellow, cyan (blue), and magenta (red) are fully printed and are the correct color, press + (Plus Key for Yes). If it#s blank, missing dashes or is the incorrect color, press - (Minus Key for No).

c. The LCD will say START CLEANING + for YES and - for NO. Press + for YES to start cleaning. The machine will go through a cleaning cycle that will take approximately one to two minutes.

Ink

  1. Buy only genuine Dell replacement cartridges. Dell states their printer cartridges cannot be refilled with ink and that only their cartridges work in the printer.
  2. Bring the cartridge carrier of the printer to the center so you can access the ink cartridges. Open the cover of the printer and the carrier slides to the center. Make sure the printer is turned on.
  3. Remove the old black ink cartridge to use the color cartridge. If you allow the old black cartridge to remain in the printer, you will get error messages that the ink is low. The printer may also keep reverting back to the black ink as the default color when printing.
  4. Open the package of the new color cartridge carefully. Remove any blue packing tape that's on the ink cartridge. Take care not to touch the gold area or you could damage the cartridge. Insert the new color cartridge into the correct slot in the printer, the right side of the cartridge carrier. The ink cartridges aren't interchangeable; they need to be placed in the correct slot.
  5. Close the cover on your printer after installing the color cartridge. Run a print test to make sure the color cartridge is installed correctly. Use the Dell Ink Management System to monitor your printer and all-in-one functions. Thanks Thiru

No print

In a confused situation like this, it is very easy for the computer to mis-report the amount of ink left in the cartridges. The reason for this is that the printer determines the amount of ink left in the cartridge by counting the number of ink "shots" when printing, head cleaning etc. This information is stored in the "chip" on the cartridge. Thus, it is not an actual measurement of the ink left, but an estimate calculated by subtracting the total shots from the original full ink quantity. This estimate can sometimes be grossly in error, usually due to a cartridge replacement not being carried out correctly etc. The best way out of this situation is always to start from a known position i.e. that you have a set of full cartridges. So, get a complete new set; save the old ones - you can use them later when you know where you are.

Install a new set properly, such that an ink charging cycle takes place, Now run a nozzle check (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of ink on the paper. If not, try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print.

If this fails to work, you can try soaking the print heads for 24 hours (or more), as follows. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves out of its parking position, pull the power cord out of the back, or turn the printer off at the mains. You may now carefully move the print head by hand over to the left hand side out of the way. Look inside the print head parking area on the right and you will see a small rubber cup that comes up to cover the print nozzles when the head is parked (to stop it drying out). Use a syringe or dropper to fill this cup with head cleaning fluid or distilled water. DO NOT USE TAP WATER. Carefully push the print head by hand fully into its parking position so that the cup full of fluid comes up over the print head. Do not turn the printer on at any stage in this process. Leave this for at least 24 hours, then turn the printer on and try a head clean/nozzle check again. If nothing, repeat the process once more. If still nothing, post a new comment detailing what you have done and the results.

Regarding your old cartridges, buy a chip resetter on e-bay (currently one for sale at £3.25). Reset all your old cartridges to "full". Tape up the outlet nozzles and save the cartridges When cartridge change time comes, use the old cartridges. If they work - fine, use them until the ink disappears, then chuck them away.

The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.
