Question about Sony KP-57WS500 57" Rear Projection Television

Picture changes focus/sharpness instantly and then recorrects

Hi, I have a kp57ws500 that I just fixed (had to adjust blue CRT). While watching anything, the tv seems to lose focus for a bit, then refocus back to good clarity. It does this every 30sec to a minute. It seems to happen when the contrast changes alot.
Any thoughts?

As a follow up, I checked the CG board and found two bad resistors, so I replaced it....but that didn't fix the problem.

As for the DRC-MF idea, all I have on my picture menu is Interlaced, Progressive and Cinematic. I don't have the ability to turn the DRC off (I don't think).

This is definitely due to the green side of things, the loss of clarity is due to the green going way out of focus and then the TV loops itself back in. If I turn the green focus **** on the front convergence/focus panel (behind the front cover), it will "click" the TV back into good quality, but it guickly diverges again.

Hi

You can try and get more infornation for me.

Go into the the menu by pressing the WEGA GATE button on the remote. In the sub menu of picture adjustment switch the DRC-MF setting to off. It should read normal.

See if this stoppes your focus problem.

If it changes let me know for further directions.

Jvc 27'' TV is too dark

There are two small holes on the rear side through which you can adjust focus and screen. Use a flash light and locate the two adjustable slots inside the holes. This part carries high voltage. Do not use a metal screwdriver to adjust. Put the TV facing a mirror so you can see how it works. Do not turn more than 1/8th of a turn. The focus control makes picture sharp or fuzzy. Screen control could change brightness. While watching the picture in the mirror, slightly adjust the screen control. Do not turn too much. If it doesn't work, then call a JVC authorized repair center.

I have to much red in my picture

Hi

First check whether all the cables from your dishnetwork are fine and connected firmly. If yes then you'll need to pull off the front of the tv, behind the speaker grill there would be a panel. Remove the panel and check for a black box hanging over there. It has 6 controls on it, 3 are marked as focus and 3 as screen. You'll need to adjust the screen. If you turn these too high you can damage a tube. so we are doing real small adjustments. Turn the color off on the tv and adjust the red, blue & green controls up till you get a fine picture. Also adjust the focus until you get a clear picture.

And, if it doesn't resolve your issue then it is an intermittant red picture tube, a bad red driver transistor on the CRT board, a bad connection on the blue crt board, or a problem in the RGB coming from the video jungle IC. This TV set most likely will run you about 200 to 400 bucks to have this problem fixed, unless it is the picture tube.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

TV, RCA MOD # F19424, CTC 203U5, Picture blury

Focus and Screen. The focus control may help, just like focusing a set of binoculars or an old camera. Watch the picture on the TV, using a mirror can help and make an adjustment until the picture is as clear as you can get it. If it still is not clear it may mean that your picture tube is weak.
If you can avoid it, don't touch the Screen control. If you have, let me know and I can advise you on the proper way to adjust it.

RCA P46921. Just changed flyback.

First, this assumes nothing else is going on to cause it. Here's what I did. Go to the 'green grid' via the v76 menu and go through the alignment there. Notice that there are red letters, blue letters, and a green grid. While you are in this screen, adjust the red, green, and blue focus watching the individual color's item until they are in focus. If they won't focus here, they won't focus and you have something else wrong (what I do not know). Then, return to normal programming, then select menu on the remote, then screen, then adjust projection tv convergence both horizontal and vertical crosshare. That ought to get it.

Sharp 20f640 focus problems

At the rear of the tv there may be two controls on the right hand side marked "screen" and "focus".If the set is newer, you will have to remove the cover and look to your right. You will see a dark object with a black or red wire coming out of it's top. That is your flyback transformer. On this you will find these two controls.Adjust your focus with the one so marked.Be careful to only adjust this control while you watch your picture clear.PROMPLY put the cover back.

Try this procedure:

Adjust the green & blue CRT screens to match the red. Go into your picture menu adjust, turn color all the way down to a black & white picture. Now adjust each CRT screen so that you end up with a true black & white picture. Then adjust each focus control to get a sharp picture, and adjust each CRT focus one at a time for clarity by covering the other two up. Then go back into picture adjust and turn color half way up, you should see a better picture.

If you cannot get the blue & green to even out to a black & white screen you have other problems such as faulty CRT card on back of tube or it could even be that the video IC is faulty. If this is the case, then you may have to get a competent local technician to check the TV and get the necessary parts replaced. It could set you back between $200-$400, depending upon how many components need replacing.

You can also try a hard reset..Unplug all cables, including power from the back of TV. Wait for 4 hrs and reconnect them. Try and see if it works now.

Hope that helps...Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. Before you assign a rating, please make sure that the issue is resolved or you are satisfied. If not, please post back as to what you did, and/or any other questions you may have, and I will try to assist you as best I can. Please do not assign an ‘Inappropriate’ or ‘Thanks for trying’ rating if your issue is not resolved after the first response itself, as sometimes a bit of to and fro dialogue may be necessary before we can find a fix or an answer to your query.

Screen

What you may have needed to do was adjust the green & blue crt screens to match the red. Go into your picture menu adjust, turn color all the way down to a black & white px. Now adjust each crt screen so that you end up with a true black & white px. Then adjust each focus control to get a sharp px, have your tv on a channel like the home shopping network so you can adjust each crt focus one at a time for clarity by cover the other 2 up. Then go back into picure adjust & turn color ahlf way up, you should see a better px.
