Question about Canon XL1S Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

XL 1s playback has a lot of digital noise.

The Camera works fine on the recording side and the playback through the viewfinder is fine, but when I try to transfer from the camera to the computer the video feed is all distorted and glichie. I've tried on multiple computers with the same results. I have also tried cleaning the heads. You guys are my last resort before sending it in for repair. Please help if you can.

If you are capturein through the fire wire port, it could be either the port is bad or the cable ha abad connection in it. try using a different cablr first, if that does not fix it, then it must be the firewire port. just to make sure, see if you can get ahold of a "Blue Box" one of those analog to firewire converter boxes, and see if it comes out clear then. if it does then I am 100% sure that it is the firewire port.

There is a well known, but little publicised problem with CCDs on many cameras. Ther was a manufacturing problem in the components. Visit the Canon web site and look up the problem. They will tell you where to send it for free repair

I work on this model of samsung the lcd problem is a common thing with this camera
The ribbon cable to the lcd from the camera cracks and causes what you are talking about .
Normally the camera will still work buy using the eye viewfinder for recording and playback but you will not hear the sound unless the lcd door is open but then the picture in the viewfinder goes away when this door is open and comes back when it is closed
my email is spinboss@comcast.net and sell on ebay as uromastyx

Hi,
You camera is PAL and you are attaching with Ntsc TV or VCR. Both Pal and Ntsc are different systems and incompatible to each other.
If you want to see correct playback of your Camera, it requires Pal or Multi-System color TV.
Need further info, please let me know.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.

there are two possible problem of your camera...one check the iris of the camera if it is opening, you will see it went you look inside the lens when you turn on camera mode....and if you see that the iris is opening...the second may be the ccd image sensor......if that is the problem you have no choice but to go the sony service for replacing the ccd image sensor...

The noise is probably the motor running. As long as it doesn't appear on the footage, it's nothing to concern yourself about.
