Yes you can fix it in 10 min.
You wasted your money on thermostat. Problem is your flame sensor. your Furnace has a safety. When it dosen't sense the flame because of crotion build on the sensor it shuts itself off in 3 seconds. flame sensor is on the right or left side infront of the burner. it is about 2.5 to 3 inches long and about the size of Q tip. it is mounted with one or two #6 hex or sloted head screw. You may or may not have to take it out depends on what is in the way and how big is your hand ! any way you will have to run to the hardware store and buy a sheet of very fine grid SAND PAPER. Clean it very good with it. If you have Glow igniter that ignite the furnace. DO NOT TOUCH THAT. It looks like round spiral or W shape. you can't miss it thats the one that starts the fire. DO NOT TOUCH THAT. but you can clean the sensor without messing with the Igniter. you can only Clean the sensor 3 to 5 time then you will have to buy a new one. you can click on this link to know what sensor looks like.

Please let me know if that works for you.
look at the igniter link you don't want to mess with this part.

This is the proper cycle of a furnace and what should happen.

Inducer motor kicks on, it runs for a little bit, about 3-5 seconds, then you should see a bright yellow glow, this is the igniter, shortly after, you should hear a click and the gas should start to flow, almost immediately it turns to a blue flame. Then your igniter should turn off and the blower motor start up.

If the pilot turns on and the gas ignites, then shortly after the unit shuts off, chances are this is your blower motor. It is not starting up, then the heat limit is reached in your unit and the safety shuts it off.

Short burn cycles

if thats a new themostst it sounds like you didnt set the cycle dip switches correctly, the type of heat you have is unknown to the thermostat so you have to tell it or it may short cycle or overheat
