SOURCE: my dryer it got hot

Hi,

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have nottaken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then youneed to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should takeplace. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causesfor your dryer to fail.

SOURCE: My Kenmore Elite Oasis dryer

The first thing to check is the ohm reading across the heating element. that is common to go bad. If not that, there are temp switches(snap switches) to keep it from overheating. If one goes bad, it wont heat. If that is the problem, make sure your venting is not restricted too.

Clothes not drying

Clothes not drying? Thats it? Does the dryer turn on at all? Does it tumble the clothes but doesn't get warm? If it turns on and tumbles but takes a long time to dry, then your heating element is not working. There is a thermal fuse right before the heating element that will open up if the vent becomes clogged and its gets too hot. The thermal fuse is not resettable and will have to be replaced. If the thermal fuse is o.k. then your heating element could be burned out. These two items almost require an electrical meter to read continuity to check them. Make sure the dryer is unplugged before checking these items.

Under normal operating conditions, the hot air blown into a clothes dryer's tumbler reaches a temperature of about 175 degrees Celsius.
If its getting hot at all, the problem is with the amount of air that it is dispensing, maybe due to the fan not turning or the duct being plugged up.
Either way there is a problem that needs to be examined.
