Question about Brother HL 5250DN Laser Printer

HL-5250dn ona Bonjour network will not work with Leopard

My HL-5250DN Brother printer has been working perfectly on a Bonjour network with Tiger (Mac software).  I upgraded to Leopard, and it will print one page ok, then locks up when trying to print anything more.  I have to delete the printer, then add a new printer.  Then it will print one more page, then lock up.  Any ideas

I have not been able to successfully 'add a printer' for an HL-5250dn connected to my wireless access point. This setup printed fine under Tiger.

HP P1006 printer shows same problem - fails on Bonjour, fails on MAC, works fine when on Dell PC without Bonjour.  MAC alway fails, both on Bonjour or not. Must reset MAC print queue manually, then print next doc.  All sfw and drivers have been deleted and reloaded and up to latest level.  MAC says HP problem and go back to them, yet works on Dell.  After pressuring them MAC finally said they know of "some" problems with Bonjour not working "sometimes".  MAC refused to even look at the Dell PC side not working with Bonjour - they say "not their problem".  So much for the purchased MAC warranty. .

Printer was replaced by HP out of their kindness to help resolve.  New one works same way.

I believe it started after a MAC Leopard software update about the middle of December 2008 but can't prove the actual time.  But it used to work on MAC Leopard without Bonjour, now it doesn't.   It will be cheaper for me to buy another printer instead of trying anymore to get Bonjour working.

Brother is totally fucked up under Leopard, found so far no chance to fix it.  Brother's own printer drivers are 10.4 only -- lame

On Leopard, I have it configured as IPP printer via TCP/IP -- download Brothers remote printing console from the support site (select ALL software, OS 10.5) ... sometimes it finds the printer, sometimes not; if not: restart your printer; if still not resetting the network card might help (as per

another sleep deprived user tells us at <> to revert back to TCP/IP printing, but :

the 5070N will not print correctly using Bonjour under 10.5. You want the CUPS driver and the "HP Jetdirect - Socket" protocol. Then poof! It's all happy again

same holds for the 5250DN ... so I repeat Brother=LAME ... but now we know how to survive their incompetence

As you don't mention which OS your Mac is running, I'll try and answer assuming you have 10.6 or 10.5
The Brother uses the older network protocol, so the Default or Bonjour won't work.
Easiest way in 'Add Printer' is to select IP and enter the ip address you used in the web browser. Then your 5250 should appear in the list with the correct driver. If your using 10.5, you might need to go to Brother's web site and download the latest drivers.
All the options such as Duplex etc. will work with 10.5/6

I want to find the MAC address on a Brother HL-5250DN mono laser printer. We run on a Windows XP Ethernet network. Is there a report page I can print straight from the Printer?

Go to Printers and Faxes.
Right click on the printer and select Properties.
Toward the bottom, click on Printing Preferences...
Click on the Support tab.
Click on Print Settings.

This should give you three pages. The third page has the network settings including Ethernet/MAC address.
