You may want to try formating the disk. this may also mean that you have a problem with your hard drive. remember that formating the disk will erase everthing that you have on your archo. if that doesnt work, then you can take it to the place where you got it from and they will fix it for you.

good luck!

Your post/description indicates a possible problem with the firmware. It would seem that the Archos 605 would load but fail to finish and there restarts itself. This could only be possible if somehow the firmware has been corrupted or you tried a firmware upgrade but failed halfway.

There are several versions of the 605, you need to determine which one you have.

Things you can try:
1. Do a soft reset. Press on the power button for about 15 seconds;
2. Do a full/hard reset by removing the batteries and pressing the master reset button;
3. Try again the Systems Recovery. You may need also to format the internal HD but that would mean you loose whatever data is inside.

Alternately, you may need to update/re-install the firmware. A more complete and better explained firmware update procedures are here. Briefly, you have to download and save in your PC the ???????.aos file (there are several versions of the firmware. You need to determine which one is appropriate to your model), connect your 605 to the PC, copy/paste (drag & drop) the said file to the Archos device listed in "My Computer" (you may have to overwrite the older copy), disconnect 605, proceed to System Settings, tap on "Update Firmware". Follow on screen instructions.

If the above is not corrective, am afraid that your unit has been partially bricked. Some have reported serious hardware or firmware problems with the 605 that would require replacement by the manufacturer.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Unlike the 604Wifi, the 605 doesn't have a replaceable battery, It is user non-removable. Sorry. However, I was made to understand that for an extra US$49 something, you can buy an external battery pack that clips to the base of the player.

    Cheers.

Recovery (code 104)

From Archos' support website FAQ:

When I switch on my Archos device, the following message is displayed: "Would you like to recover your system?" What does it mean and what should I do?

You are on the recovery mode screen. It means that your hard drive has been damaged and must be repaired or formatted.
With this system recovery mode, you will have to select between "Repair Disk" and "Format Disk".
Start by selecting "Repair Disk" and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. See the full PDF manual (available on the Archos web site) on how to use the Repair and Format options.

If repairing the disk did not work, try formatting the disk by selecting "Format Disk". Note that the formatting will erase all data.

If you still cannot restart your Archos after trying a system recovery, you should contact Archos technical support.

Sir i just formatted my ipod because i was not able to install any songs but after that only i knew that it need a installation cd now it's just chose connect to pc and repair firm ware and recover utility...

Okay, if it was an Apple iPod, then when you connect it to iTunes, you can see an option to restore it. You can restore it to the original settings, with any software, like the original, the latest update etc. It will help you.

If it isn't Apple, please don't call it an iPod and write the correct branded name please to avoid any kind of confusions.

I Have a Archos 605 wifi 30GB

You can try to connect to your computer with the usb connection. In case it shows up after some time in ´your computer´ as a regular old diskdrive, then you could try a chkdsk /f command, in order for fix a harddrive error, or reformat and download the firmware, and try to run that on your computer to the harddrive of the unit.

Recovery mode

For those with the 4 GB model, try removing the SD card and powering completely off, without selecting any of the recovery options.  You will probably get prompted to recover when the device boots, click OK to recover - do not reinsert the SD card.  Perform a complete power off and power on cycle without the SD card.  If this works, reinsert the SD card and perform a power off/power on cycle.  If it prompts you to recover the system, the SD card is bad (the data can probably be read by the device after it has restarted, but will continue to cause the recovery mode).  Note that reformatting the card in the device does not seem to resolve the issue.  Try reformatting the card in a PC or digital camera (this option worked for me).
