Vizio VF551XVT 55' LCD LED HDTV no sound on HD channels, sound on all other channels. I've read that you reset the MTS to "English 5.1 HD" but the only options I have are "stereo" "SAP" and "Mono" where do I reset that to get sound on all channels? I have a comcast HD box and I'm running from the box to the tv.

check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. Hi Aaenlle, Before replacing any component, you need to have a proper diagnosis of the fault and that needs a certain amount of knowledge and expertise of the subject. I hope you have checked the signal from the source and have selected the right source.
Hi: This problem may be due to a failing T-Con board, this board is at the very top of the panel inside the unit. It also could be a indication of a failing LCD Panel but replacig the T-Con board is the first solution to your problem.
Sounds like you need to do a channel scan. This would be found under the Menu and then channel setup. If there is an option for scanning for digital or analog channels, just scan for analog. Channels with a dash are usually a digital station. If you really want to get digital or HD channels, I would recommend getting the HD box from your cable company and use the HDMI or Component connections.
I have the same set, same problem with one of my MOTOROLA boxes, but not with another. I have a SONY TV that works fine with this new MOTO box, but the new VIZIO does not. The audio is coming through the HDMI cable just fine, and the fact that it works when you cycle power on your TV means it's the SYNC between the TV and the BOX. I have the identical problem and am taking back the MOTO box for another one. I spoke to VIZIO for about 45 minutes trying different things. They think it's the MOTOROLA box, COX (my cable company) thinks it's this particular box, who knows.
I had a similar issue with my VF551xvt and my Blueray player. The issue was actually with my Blueray player and not the TV. the settings for the blueray player when hooked to HDMI were defaulted to muted. once this was changed my sound came back.
