Hi, I have the 3 gal. CH air compressor. Question: should I be able to adjust the pressure after I start a project and I've been using the unit for a while? For example, If it automatically cuts out at 80 LBS and I use it for a while at 80 LBS, can I then decide to increase the working pressure to 110 LBS or do I have to bleed the tank and start over and set it at 100 LBS when I start up again? Thanks!

You can adjust the pressure regulator at any time. Now the cut out pressure switch, should be set no higher than the mfg recommends. I hope you have an in inline working regulator and moisture separator. It sounds as though your working right out of the tank and want to crank up the cut out switch. don't do it. Iam guessing you bought a compressor too small to do much with. 2HP 220volt and a 20 or 30 gallon tank is bare min with 6 to 8 CFM. Even that won't run air tools for long. If you have what I see in the picture with an enclosed motor and oilless compressor it won't last long. My CH lasted 31 years and in 08 about this time I got a new one. Still going to rehab old one some day.

I have a 3 gal 1 hp air compressor and it will only build pressure to 27 lbs.

If it makes hesitation sounds just before shutting off, you need to oil the compressor as per the manual. This is the most common problem.
If it is kicking on and off normally, you need to adjust the pressure relay. The instructions are under the cover.

Hi, I have a 15 gal dewalt air compressor model

This model compessor has developed many problems all related to the unusually high cutoff pressure of 200psi. Most all single stage compressors cutoff at about 125- 140psi to keep amp draw to a minimum. Reduce the cutoff pressure as low as possible for job to extend the life of you unit. Locate pressure switch and remove cover to expose adjustment nut. There are generally two adjustments. One for pressure cutout and the other for differential. Sometimes instructions are under cover to switch. Good luck.

My compressor does not reach more than 30 psi on tank pressures why ?

hi there,
there are certain reason, try to adjust your pressure switch to as certain pressure you want, doing this refers to service manual on adjusting cut out and cut in pressure.there is adjusting screw on a box, mounted on the compressor tank.another factor for not reaching the set up pressure is lost compression observe on this is, a mechanical malfunction of worn out piston ring.if this a reason replace piston ring this should be done by certified
mechnic.have a nice day dont gorget to fix my rate, thanks a lot.

Compressor hangs up after a few minutes of operation. I have changed both capacitors

Does this occur at the same pressure each time? Maybe the pressure switch is mis-adjusted or defective. Does it restart at the same pressure each time? Does the motor seem hard to turn when the unit quits?. Does the compressor have an adequate level of oil?

Sears craftsman 3 gal/1.5 hp air compressor won't run

are you using an extension cord? if so, plug the compressor into a wall socket, if it fires up fine then your extension cord is too long or not heavy enough - other problems could be a bad start capacitor, a loose connection in the pressure switch, or a bad switch

Air compressor motor stalls under pressure

this sounds like a bad pressure switch.if the unit is not shutting off at the same pressure each time this would be the cause.2 if the pressure is not unloading the air pressure on the compressor side of the unit it will cause the unit to struggle when it starts a cycle because the piston is under a load .how this works is say the unit starts from 0 psi when it get to the desired pressure you have it set on the unit kicks off . the other adjustment most units have on them is what pressure to cycle back on.so when the unit reaches say 100 pounds ,it kicks off and bleeds the air off the compressor side so when it starts back up it wont start up with pressure on the piston.
