Question about Panasonic PT-53TW53 53" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Shut down Original problem was a red wave at the bottom of the screen, I replaced 2 IC's with stk110-180, red wave is gone but now the blue won't adjust side to side and the power shuts off after about 1 minute. How do you check the resistors with an ohm meter? all 12 of them seem to be working.

    I ment STK392-180

Also the front IC ( the one on the angle) does not get nearly as warm as the one in back. What happens if I got the PCB too hot when desoldering the old STK's

Your convergence amps are bad they are the two large chips that are mounted to there own board they should read STK392-110 if you changed them already then in front of the two IC's you changed are several risesters you have to take an ohlm meter put the slector on the little horse shoe and then check each risester they should read 1.5 to 2.7 if you find one that reads nothing change it but change it with the same color risester.

What circumstance does the screen will be a blue screen of Digiprog 3 ?

there are mainly 4 reasons
1). Digiprog3 can't connect with the computer unless it needs to update, also can't run with the original software.
2). If you update incorrectly, DP3 will blue screen. (When we have newest update software, you could update DP3, if we haven't newest software, do not update).
3). Crashed during shipping
4). The voltage is unstable when Digiprog3 (Item No. SM33) is opened. (Note: please read carefully the manual before use DP3.)

3 steps to solve it
Step 1. Take down the fly cable between X1 and C30 in the red box.
(see following picture)

Step 2: Take down the IC on X1, then replace with a new IC. ( the IC pits should be compatible with the red point on the picture)

Step 3: Solder the fly cable (that has been taken out in first step) back to its original position.

Digiprog 3 has been updated to the newest version V4.94.

Projection HDTV Pansonic 47" Curving blue and green colors on top and bottom of screen.

You will need to replace your two convergence I.C.s.They are two large IC mounted on a large aluminum heat sink.Replace both, look for any burned resistors near them, replace those if needed, and readjust your convergence. Good Luck

Let me know if you need any further help

Mitsubishi 55411 projection tv has red band across bottom

go into the customer menu and select convergence with the original remote; if either the red or blue will not move in some direction, you have a bad convergence IC(the WS-55411 uses two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE IC chips)

The Screen looks 3D & Colors don't line up on my big screen????

If the convergence is off more than 1/2 inch or so you can't adjust. you have a failure of hardware. most likely the output IC. This set has 2 outputs for convergence. Each output contains 3 circuits, Six circuits altogether 2 red ,2 blue and 2 green. The normal customer adjustment will only alow adjustment of blue and red. They should be converged onto the green. There is a much more complex adjustment in the service mode for Geometry and convergence. These adjustments are only needed when you replace a failed componnent like the output ic. These ICs have been upgraded several times since the production of this set. The latest and most powerfull version is STK394-160. If feel up to it I suggest changing both outputs and the corresponding output resistors. Then do a complete geometry and convergence alignment.

Double images and colors are blurry .Blue, red and yellow wave coming up from the bottom of the screen on the lower left symptom is for busted convergence IC,you must replaced this IC in order that will works better again.STK 392-xxx ICs and it's associated resistor, this resistor automatically change value, can caused truoble even though you change the ICs.If you bring this to a service center they cost you $600 to $700,but if you buy the repair kit you can save more, don't wory it is very easy because there is intallation guide including in the repair kit. Wave at bottom of screen with green and pink shadows

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projeciton sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you are handy and can follow directions. You can get complete repair kits from TvRepairKits.com or click here. They have put together DIY repair kits that include the OEM parts and step by step photo instructions for each repair. If you are not handy or can't follow directions we would suggest calling a shop.

Not sure, but looks like blue and red shadows around words on the screen

Al, bring up your convergence grid (look in menu for it) and I think you`ll find that the set is out of convergence, if you can adjust the red up & down and the blue up & down your ok, if they won`t move in one or both directions the convergence IC`s will have to be changed out, hope this helps, BMW Rider

Has anyone had problems with connecting an 'HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input,HDMI+ Audio output)' to a Panasonic PT-53TW53? I have a TiVo Premiere hooked up to my Panasonic PT-53TW53. I use the HDMI out, and RCA R+L outputs on the TiVo, and hook up to the digital in connections on the TV. The conversion of the HDMI out is via an HDMI to DVI cable. This has worked perfectly for years, but recently I wanted to disconnect the TiVo and replace with my Roku or Amazon Fire TV. Both have a single HDMI output. So I purchased an AGPtek HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF + RCA L / R Audio Extractor Converter (HDMI input, HDMI+ Audio output) box, hooking up the HDMI output from the Roku or Fire TV to the input on the extractor/converter, and simply disconnecting the HDMI to DVI and RCA R+L outputs from the TiVo, and plugging them into the outputs on the converter/extractor. The converter/extractor has a 3 position switch: PASS, 2CH audio, or 5.1CH (via and SPDIF or Toslink cable). I have had 2 of these converter/extractors, and with both the Roku and Fire TV I got the same results with both converter/extractors: With the switch on 2CH, which is where I understand I should get HDMI video and 2CH RCA audio, all I get is the RCA audio. No video. If I switch to PASS I get video with no audio. Of course on the 5.1 setting I get nothing, since the TV does not support SPDIF. Yet I see reviews all over Amazon indicating folks are using this converter/extractor for this very purpose, and it is working fine. I can't possibly imagine that it is some sort of incompatibility issue with the TV, since the TiVo has worked (and continues to) fine for years. Any ideas?
