The WW series uses a battery pack with 3 AA batteries, located right under the top cover. If you have never replaced these the pack is probably corroded and be cleaned with a nail file.... or even Coke if you want to remove it.

When things are clean and dry replace the cells with new ones and plug the pack back in.

Sorry to tell you but the memory is gone forever. In the future, replace the batteries when the power to the TW is ON, only was IBM lets you do that.

Memory erases when turned off

There are AA batteries in the machine and it takes either 2 or 3. You can replace them when the machine is on as that will not harm the machine or you. The batteries should be replaced every one - two years. Replacing them when the machine is turned on will allow the current memory to remain intact.

Some personal WW have a reprint feature top L. hand key (RE -PRT) in green. This will only reprint what you have just typed. To get a true memory you need a WW 5.6.30,etc.

WHEELRITER 6 LOST MEMORY.

When it turns on do the lights blink and go out on the first key touched? If so the battery hilder is probably corroded. Clean the contacts with sand paper. When this is solved you can start storing again. The data is lost and can't be retrieved.
