Question about 2wire (1000-000057-000) Modem

2wire 1000sw modem

I have a 2wire modem directly connected to my computer and all three lights are green. I called Yahoo and spoke to all of their "top" techs and they said that they cannot figure out why I dont have an internet connection. When they had me ping my computer to yahoo.com it sent 4 packets and only received 2 back. I do have a wireless card in my computer as well and used to be able to at least pick up the neighbors internet connection and others in the connections window. but now I do not see anything in that window. It says I have a connection but no green bars showing the strength etc.

Try running the system setup wizard found at the main page of the modem UI by going to gateway.2wire.net, make sure you got the correct keycodes for your dsl dynamic/ static ip, then verify if you have the correct username & password on the ppp authentication page. after the modem has established a connection, go to homeportal/management, then configure the wireless channels on the modem. (wireless channels = 11, power settings = 10, SSId broadcast enabled. SSID/ network name should be 2wirexxx, where xxx stands for the last 3 digits of your modem serial no.)for additional info go to support.2wire.com you can also ask your ISP to access the 2wire's MDC for you.

My DSL 2wire modem always blink like crazy.

DSL light blinking green/red indicates you do not have a solid connection to your DSL signal. Typically this can be anything from the connections at your home all the way to the connections with your ISP. As I do tech support for this model of 2wire modem all day long here is what I would tell you to do if you were calling me:

Are you using the proper length of phone cord (15ft or less): people sometimes have a longer phone cord in use and while it MAY work for a while outside conditions will effect the DSL signal enough that it no longer cuts the mustard. The longer the phone cord the more resistance a signal has in reaching the modem.

Filters: Typically the 2wire modem comes with 3 1-way filters and a single 2-way filter. Often people put the wrong filter on the modem, which doesn't even require one, or they put the correct filter (2-way filter) but hook it up to the wrong end (that is to say it should be connected to the DSL side of the filter). All other devices in the house such as phones, fax machines, Tivos, DVRs, Sat TVs, and monitored alarm systems (AKA anything ELSE connecting to/using the phone system) should be on filters.

Phone service: Do you have phone service? Do you have a dial tone or static? If so all problems with phone service will effect your DSL service as that is how the DSL service is piped into your home...that is to say through the phone line. Do not contact your ISP for this problem as it is a phone line problem creating your internet problem.

Phone jack location: Have you tried moving the modem, it's power cord, and proper length phone cord to another jack? Granted the argument that "it worked yesterday, so it should work today" is a strong one but sometimes putting the modem on another jack JUST to test out any potential wiring problems is a helpful one and could save you a lot of frustration. If one jack gives you red/green DSL lights and the other gives you solid green...that should speak for itself.

ISP provider: IS your service turned on? It may be a bit...hmmm...how shall we say....obvious but if your service has been turned off, or not even turned on yet, then that would be why. In addition, if the above does not help in determining what the problem is, a technician may need to be dispatched to determine where the fault lies. Sometimes it's the box down the road and sometimes it's a few miles away.

I have a 2 wire AT&T modem. The modem power

Try to replace the power cord with a same voltage adapter from Radio Shack or any local electronic store. If you search FixYa using key work "2Wire Modem", you'll see a whole bunch of people having the exactly same problem with their 2Wire modems! I fixed mine (all three of them) by simply replacing the power cords!

Ethernet light is green but continuously blinks is there a problem with modem or ethernet cable?

no, a green light means there is a connection with the network and dns server (gateway to the internet) information is sent allow this network in bundles called packets. Each time a packet is sent the green light blinks.....sometimes when many packets are being sent in succession the light will appear solid. so i wouldnt worry, the green lights on your router and computer are normal and you should become concerned if these lights turn yellow or stop blinking completely.

Broaband link

Ok, thank you for clarifying.

It seems like the settings on the 1707 have been reset.
On this modem, while connected, type "homeportal.2wire.net" without the quotes.
  • click on "Broadband Link"
  • click on "Advanced Settings"
*note:you may have to enter your password. if you never set one and it asks you for one, click on "I still can’t remember the password". Follow the instructions.
  • On the "advanced Settings" page, make sure your settings are correct. The user name is the same you use to check your AT&T Yahoo Email. and also the password.
  • If you have forgotten your settings, you can call AT&T to retreive your settings at 1-877-722-3755. Have your AT&T Bill and the debit/credit card (used to activate your service) on hand.
They should be able to give you your info.
If not, comment back.

Adding another computer to network

You can have 4 PCs connecting to your 2 wire 2701hgv or 2700hgv wired or wirelessly. Make sure the DSL light and the internet light is green and lighted up
For wired connection, just plug in the RJ45 cable to the ethernet 1,2,3, or 4 and the other end of the RJ45 cable on your laptop LAN card or network adaptor
For wireless connectivity, SSID is 2wire followed by the last 3 digits of the SN(or serial number) and the WEP key is located at the bottom of the 2wire modem in between 2 bar codes in square brackets. If the WEP key and the SSID was changed before in the modem page, go to the modem page and see what is the latest SSID and WEP key using RJ45 cable connected
