Nikon MC-EU1 LCD Remote Control

Problem with Nikon Coolpix Remote Cord (by 2 users)

By Brad - usenet poster

Hello,
Can anyone advise me of what the possible cause could be when the remote
unit senses that there is no room on the flash card to store images
despite the card having plenty of space?

I have just bought the remote cord (MC-EU1) and am not sure if it is a
malfunction or have I to do anything extra. (I followed the instructions
to the letter and the camera and remote do sync-up but nothing happens
when I try to take a picture)

The remote LCD displays 000 down in the bottom right which signifies
that there is no more room on the flash card to store images.

Before taking a 40 mile round trip to my camera store (where they are
certainly not experts) I would like to get some advice.

I have a Coolpix 990 with Rev 1.0 firmware

         Regards,

         Andrew

I have been using the MC-EU1 remote with Nikon Cool Pix cameras for 6 years now, with frequent intermittant failures. Every remote has failed, sometimes after little usage. The phiosophy is good - a flexible electronic lead removes all possibility of shake. I now carry 4 of these things, and still suffer frequent failures. All of my friends in Malaysian digiscoping have abandonned the MC-EU1 for DIY mechanical remotes. It is a serious blot on Nikon's reputation that they still allow these to be sold (for about £100 each) and have not bothered to address this very serious manufacturing and quality problem. I am shocked and offended that Nikon allow this disgrace to persist, with never the slightest interest to help customers.

I believe if you wish to use the MC-EU1, you should upgrade to rev.
1.1 of  the firmware.

My MC-EU1 wouldn't even work with my 990 with 1.0 firmware. After
upgrade to v 1.1, everything's fine.
