I have a six years old Dell Dimension 4550 PC Desktop with Win XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, and my PC has just got a booting problem.
When I push the power button I see the DELL logo followed by Win XP logo for five seconds as normal, then I see a blank dark screen with blinking cursor.
After ten seconds PC attempts to boot itself again, and this behaviour keeps happening again and again as an endless cycle.
Customer help line was useless after two hours on the phone and advice me to take the PC to a local computer shop !
Trying to boot it on the Safe Mode did not solved the problem.
Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated...
    Hank (from Santa Monica)

Acer aspire PC model M3470G with error msg:can't find reboot disk or it is damaged

check bios at boot for any 'hard disk detection' options to see if the drive is actually getting power and being recognized by the system. If it is, it may likely be the boot record, which will require a reload or restore.

Install windows 95 from floppy

Microsoft Windows 95 employs the use of a bootable floppy disk to begin the installation of the Windows 95 operating system or to troubleshoot problems with the system. Microsoft Windows 95 uses the MS-DOS system to boot the computer first and then loads the Windows 95 operating system onto the machine. Windows 95 Boot Disks may be created in one of two ways: The Startup disk may be created from within Windows or a boot disk may be created from a free downloaded boot disk image. After the boot disk is created the disk may be used to boot the computer and install or troubleshoot Windows 95.

Click "Start" and then click "Settings" in Windows 95. Click the "Control Panel" option. Click "Add and Remove Programs." Click "Startup Disk" and then click "Create." Insert the blank floppy disk into the disk drive. Click "OK." The operating system will create the Windows 95 boot disk. Click "OK" when the disk is finished. Create the Windows 95 Boot Disk using Downloaded Boot Disk Image Open a Web browser and navigate to the boot disk image site (See "Below"). http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm Download the Windows 95 boot disk image and save the .EXE file to the desktop. Click the .EXE file to unzip the enclosed files. The formatting application will start. Insert the blank floppy disk into the disk drive and click "OK." The Windows 95 boot image will be created on the blank floppy disk. Use the Windows 95 Boot Disk Insert the Windows 95 boot up disk into the computer's floppy disk drive. Power the computer down by clicking "Start" and then clicking "Shutdown." Power on the computer with the Windows 95 boot disk in the floppy disk drive. The computer will boot up into MS-DOS to enable installation or troubleshooting of Windows 95.

I have an Acer Aspire x1700 and it will not reboot, I cannot locate the reboot disk. How can you help?

Yuo need a lot of try and error to be successful.
First your OS and the BOOT disk that comes with your machine. But if you dont had the CD you need to buy and download it.
Store like Bestbuy,CompUSA,etc.. sell this CD,s or go to this LINK where you can buy it online and download it, choose your OS and any other specs about your System.
After all you need to BURN the files in a blank CD or order for mail shipment.

Then we going to BOOT the system id the CD drive.

To rebuild your hard drive, do the following:
  1. Power up your Acer system.
  2. When prompted (after memory testing completes), press CTRL + ALT + ESC to enter CMOS setup.
  3. At the CMOS Setup screen select Advanced BIOS Features
  4. Verify the Boot Options Sequence is set to the following order:
    1st [CD-ROM]
    2nd [Floppy Disk]
    3rd [Hard Disk]
  5. Insert the Acer System CD, DISK 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  6. Press F10 to exit and save. When prompted, Do you want to save CMOS data?, select [Yes], then press ENTER.
  7. The system will reboot from the CD-ROM. After booting from the CD-ROM, you will see the Acer Hard Drive Rebuild options displayed.

Note: Use your mouse for choice selections during the HDD recovery process. The mouse will respond slowly during this procedure, DO NOT press the Enter key. Pressing the Enter key will cause the HDD recovery process to terminate.
  8. Select HDD Full Rebuild and follow the on-screen instructions.
  9. When prompted to insert Acer Recovery CD, DISK 2, wait for the CD-ROM to eject DISK 1.
  10. Close the CD-ROM tray and click OK. The system will continue to rebuild the hard drive back to factory load.
After being prompted to remove disk and restart system the unit will load system software and hardware. During this process the system will reboot several times.
Your Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) ID number will automatically be entered for you. Should you need this number for any reason, look for your Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity (COA) ID number on the cover of your system.

"thumbs and post back!"

Acer computer is frozen on screen which reads press f12 or del to enter setup. when computer comes on it does not beep so i cannot use keyboard all the lights on the keyboard aare off. HELP!!

From the description you are giving, it appears that the system is not detecting a bootable hard disk drive. Hold the power button on the system till it powers off. once system is off, try the following:
  1. Ensure no floppy diskette is in the A: if system has a floppy drive
  2. Disconnect all external items (Printer, scanner, network connection) leave only video and keyboard connected to system.
  3. Try powering system on again
If the system gives the same message, try rebooting and pressing F12 ONCE at the ACER screen and see if you can get a 1 time boot menu. If you can get the boot menu, select CD-ROM, and put you WINDOWS CD in the optical drive, see if system will boot to the CD. If you can, then at the first prompt, press R to enter recovery console, and see if you can run the command CHKDSK /R (then press enter)
If chkdsk runs, then reboot and see if the error has gone away. IF you cannot run CHKDSK then the hard disk drive has likely failed and will need replacement.

Blue screen on acer extensa 5630 laptop it says its my intel display driver

Try rebooting the computer in safe mode with networking...this is usually done by tapping the F8 key while the manufacturers splash screen shows up for a few seconds. Once the multi-boot screen comes up scroll to safe mode with networking and click ok. Once the computer boots up, it will probably be using a generic video driver to show a picture, go to acer's support site and download a fresh driver, the link is below....good luck. when you click the link, make sure you pick what operating system you are using to get the correct driver. click on drivers > notebook > aspire > 5630 > choose operating system.

I was trying to go through recovery thinking I could get more speed on laptop and I messed comp. up. Only get a blank black screen. tried powering down, rebooting, still can't get on. Help!! i was trying...

Flashing the Bios is a LAST DITCH effort to resolve Hardware issues. You should NEVER flash the bios unless you are absolutely certain it's the correct bios for your computer, also NEVER flash bios from within windows..

There may however be a solution for you, Acer laptop computers with the Pheonix BIOS sometimes has a " flashback" feature, allowing you to revert to your original Bios..

You will need to contact Acer to get a Crisis Bios recovery disk from them. Or ask for further information on how exactly to recover from a bad bios flash.
