I have 2000 hyundai elentra timing belt cut while driving on hiway dose the pistons hit the valves. I know camry is a safe engine & no damage happens with timming belt cut on driving. I cranked the hyundai engine several times thought it is the fuel pump no damage sounde. if the engine is a safe engine i will replace the timing belt if damaged I will scrap it.

It may be that the pistons have hit the valves because of incorrect timing. Damaged valves will result in no compression.. This will happen on an interference engine - valves hit pistons. I don't think your car is an interference fit engine, so it may be -hopefuly - a case of incorrect timing.
The link below lists all interference engines:
Is there zero compression on 1 cylinder or all cylinders?
I would say so, most probably the valves have been bent by hitting the pistons when the belt broke. When the belt breaks, the valves stop mmoving, and the pistons keep moving and will hit the valves and damage them.
Whether 4-cyl or V6 there should not have been any, as these are non-interference engines, that is, the pistons do not hit the valves when timing fails. The engine just stops.
The pistons dont hit the valves on this engine so if the belt broke you should be able to just replace it. I cant remember the timing marks off hand but the crank definatelly has a notch that lines up with a mark on the timing case. I think under the crank gear, I think the cam lines up upright. At least you cant do engine damage if you get it wrong.
your timing belt is broken, it is NOT an interference engine so it did not damage pistons or valves, but the front of the engine will need to be taken apart to install a new timing belt.
Volvo recommends for Volvo S80, changing the timing belt every 105,000 miles. Needless to say, they are pretty religious about this now. The B20, B21, B23, and B230 engines are non-interference engines, meaning that the camshaft can be rotated independently of the crankshaft and no damage will result to the engine. That is, if the timing belt breaks, the valves will not hit the pistons; the engine will simply stop. On the other hand, the B234 16-valve engines and any of the other Volvo multi valve engines are interference engines. Loss of the timing belt in these engines will result in severe or fatal engine damage. Your car might be fitted with: 2.8L (VIN 90, 6th & 7th digit, B6284T eng, turbo) 2.9L (VIN 94, 6th & 7th digit, B6294S eng) To get more information you can download the Owners manual at: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2001/2001_s80/01s80_08b.htm

Basically the timing belt connects the crankshaft with the two camshafts. This allows the valves to open allowing air into the engine at the right time. If the belt breaks then the crankshaft along with the piston and rod assembly will still move but the valves will be still. This can cause the piston to collide with the valves which can cause damage to the pistons, valves, and the entire head in some cases. There is a chance of nothing getting damage though. There are interference and free-wheeling engines. The difference is that free-wheeling engines has a space between the top of the piston and the bottom of the valve so if the belt did break then the valve would not hit the top of the piston
this is an interference (valves hit the pistons) engine and will cause engine damage if the belt brakes, the best thing to do is put the belt on and see if it starts, I have seen some dodge the bullet on occasion. In most cases u will hear nothing, the engine will just stop running.
