Yes, I've had my rack for a couple of years, no problem until now.

Description of problem: I turn on the power to the 002 rack system, there will be the usual clicking sound before it begins to operate and the green light on the sample rate indicator on the rack will light up (44.1), then the light will shut off, like the rack has gone dead, only the red mute light will remain on.
Then after a moment (a minute or thirty seconds) the rack will make the clicking sound again like it is trying to start up again but fails to catch on, the red mute light still remains on through this whole ordeal.

All my connection are working (firewire external drive, connect from Digi 002 rack to firewire card). I will launch the Pro Tools software and it will say that the Digi Rack (hardware) is not connected. It seem to be an internal problem inside the Digi 002 rack.

Anyone have this same problem? Help!

I have the exact same problem. What was the solution? Thanks.

  • dsqrd May 31, 2008

I have the same condition. It occured after I had installed a Western Digital mybook external firewire hard drive. My friend (an Mac tech) hooked up his external drive and it did the same thing. Also the green link light on the rear of the panel comes on for one second then goes off when you plug the fire wire cable in. The protools program cannot find the dae etc.

I too have the "Red Light Only" problem. Upon starting one time it clicked and clicked trying to get started. I ppowered down and tried again, annd now I have the dreaded red light only....

I tried unplugging annd re-plugging the wires from the power cable, but still the same problem. I can't seem to find any other forums talking aboout this either. Does anyone have any OTHER solutions?

    Thanks Chad

DSQRD here...
After disconnecting power source, I went back in and unhooked and rehooked the white plastic connector located at the front of the unit. It's in between the power switch and the mainframe and has about 6 wires through it. This time it worked and the 002 lit up. It's kinda humid in my studio and I think the connections film up easily. I plan to address that issue as well. It was a coincidence I guess that all this started the same time I hooked up the external drive. It through us off as to what had happened.
Good luck

Hello,
I just had the same problem... It has to do with the connectors from the power harness. Found this on the internet and it did the trick for me...
Goodluck!
It seems like it's only a matter of time before the digi002 (rack and non-rack) have this problem. You'll go to turn it on and the mute light turns on and nothing else. You don't hear the 3 clicks that you usually hear when turning it on. Your computer doesn't recognize it. Then you start swearing and promising to quit recording forever. After all that happens, you have 2 options:

1. call digidesign. they've been replacing the power harness (source of problem) for just about everyone, even if you're out of warranty and it's free (including the tech support over the phone). don't pay them anything. maybe shipping.

2. most people seem to have the same problem after a while after getting their new power harness. lots of people are saying it's not even the harness - just the connectors. so last night i had this problem and i opened up the top of the box and unplugged and plugged back in the little rubber-covered wires going from the power cord to the rest of the 002. turned it on. works fine. i may try to use some of that connector-cleaner from GC if it happens again.

so if you find this happening, don't panic. try the above. takes 5-10 minutes (only because of all of the screws)

How do i clean the dc power? what is that?

I think you're referring to a problem that's known with Digi 002 Rack where the power harness oxidizes and loses power connection over time.

Digi used to send you a new power harness & contact cleaner to make sure that doesn't happen again. You should contact their customer service if you're having an issue with it.

Digi 002 Red Light Only fix?

Hey Chadfish,

I had to call Digidesign. They are aware of this very common problem with 002s and will send you a new power harness free of charge. They were really cool about and did not give me the runaround. I got the new harness in about 5 days. Make sure you have your 002 registered before you call.

Hey -

Unplugging the harness and reconnecting only worked for a couple days. It turned out that I had to call digidesign and they sent me a new power harness for free. That fixed it for me.

Digi 002 rack

easy. Your clock got screwed by one of your audio programs in you system. It Happens when sample rates are mixes up. Leave your digi 002 on it does not set itself other than the factory sample rate setting when primarily switched on, which will remember its last setting if mixed up in an attempt to recover. Leave it on turn your system on. Then turn your system off. Not the digi. just your pc, mac. The software utilizing the previously screwed up sample rate will or should be reset. thus resetting your digi 2 to its factory 44. If it does not work check your software settings for any audio software set as default to run when pc is started ans make sure they are set to play back 44. Never turn your pc off when a program using your digi faulters.
