There alot of good brands out there, but to get a good one, you have to invest some money into one. The best that I have seen is the built-in Beam systems. But a regular vacuum, the better models for most brands would probably work, you will want one that has alot of suction, but buy into that bowling ball test, most vacuums will pass that.

What's the best vacuum for pet hair?

Try a bagless vacuum cleaner as hair blocks up bags very quickly. One that is around 2000 watts should have enough power to do the job. As for the price check appliance stores for sales and deals.

The alarm on my machine keeps sounding; even though I have cleaned the filters, emptied the dust bucket, its driving me mad as I rely so much on this machine; with dogs, cats and children and a farm h

Please check the suction on your machine? Is it strong? It may be that you have a clog, particularly since you have dogs, cats and children!

It suction is fine, have you checked the rotating roller brush? If the point of pickup is poor on your floors, you may need to check your belt. You may have picked up a large object that has affected the tension in the belt. Reduced power

Reduced power is almost always a clog - disassemble hose fittings & passageways & clear
out clog. If you have a dog/cat, your chances that the clog is pet hair are about 100%.

When vacuuming hardwood floor, hair gathers on brush and never sucks into vacuum. I spend most of my time cleaning off brushes. How do I clean hardwood floor with dog hairs.

1. Broom and dust pan, then mop
2. Wet dry vac with wide non-brush attachment
3. Here's a link to a vacuum professing to clean pet hairs well

http://www.evvive.com/shop-by-brand/miele-open-box-canister-vacuums/miele-s516-cat-dog-vacuum_2

4. Try to find a wide attachment for the hose that has no brush, maybe something from a wet dry vac.

5. Take your dog outside and brush every day. It helps, but no matter what you do, you will have pet hair if you have an indoor pet.

6. Go to the source. See if your dog will be vacuumed. Half serious on this one.

Good luck!

I bought my Hoover...U5180-910...@ my local Wal-Mart. It is literally falling apart. The sweeper has NOT been abused. Yes, we have 2 cats & a dog but the problems I am having w/ it should not be warranted. The handle has broken. The wheel/roller on the bottom of the machine has broken off & now it has just stopped working. I repeat, this vacuum has NOT been treated badly @ all. I can not be w/out a vacuum. Thank you for your help, hopefully. Debi

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The best thing to do if the vacuum is less than a year old then take it to an authorized Hoover vacuum cleaner dealer and some parts and maybe not all might be warranted

The handle can be fixed and the wheel roller also can be fixed by any vacuum cleaner dealer. With pets the suggested belt change should be done every 3 to 4 months with 2 cats and a dog and the extra belts should be stored in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator. If the vacuum just stopped working it could be the motor and if less than one year might be warranted. Feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
