It basically means, that you have all of your data stored somewhere on the computer, so that it can be re-synchronized. However, if you are upgrading your firmware to a newer version, you don't shouldn't have to worry about loosing the data, only if you are going from a newer version to a later version.

Zen touch not recognized as connected

Hi,
uninstall Media Player 11 (rollback) or get Media Player 10 to install. This seems to be key.
3. You will then need to go to the microsoft web site and download kb891122 (If you have an old version of Media Player 10 get the new version. Make sure you remember where they were downloaded and what they are called. 4. Go to the manual creative downloads and get (a) the latest drivers from the creative web site which would also allow you to use the latest firmware and (b) the latest firmware. 5. Remove all Creative software and drivers from the Add/Remove programs option in the control panel. You may have to uninstall 6. Next go to start --- > run --->regedit. This will open the registry. Search and delete every instance of creative and zen. You will also find an instance that shows the mtp (key says video something or other). You will need to delete that key too (but it only removed for me when the creative zen touch was connected) (again delete this registry key not just the instance pointing to the name - hitting tab once will get you to the key). Close the registry when done. 7. Next go to the hardware manager (easiest way - right click on my computer left click on properties and then select Hardware and then Device manager). 8. Under Universial Serial Bus Controllers uninstall each and every instance of USB Root HUB (be careful if you have a USB mouse and keyboard because this will deactivate them all - Hopefully you saved a ps2 mouse/keyboard or have adapters) THe USB Root Hubs will reinstall upon restart which you should do next. Make sure the zen is not connected. 9. After you restart then start up Windows Media Player and go to the Sync option - I added a couple of files to sync to help with the force reset later with the zen touch. 10. Install the latest drivers that you downloaded from the creative web site (assuming you followed the same order I am placing them in). If not go to the manual download section of the creative site and get them now. 11. Now connect the Zen Touch. 12. While both Windows Media Player and the Zen touch are connected and running - run the firmware upgrade (which again you either have already or need to get from the manual download section of the creative site now). 13. After the firmware is installed go to the creative web site and the automatic download should now recognize the device and get you all the software that you need to operate the player at its optimal performance

My creative nomad zen-juke box only shows "firmware problem" what should i do

Connect your MP3 Player to your computer. Visit the Creative Labs website and go to the area of the site labeled support. Here you should be able to tell them what model you have (usually located on back of mp3 in small letters) and locate a firmware update/ download for that model.

Download this file and run the setup with your mp3 player connected to the computer. This will reinstall the firmware to the unit and restore its functionality.

If the unit is not support by Creative anymore you may have to do a search online (Google and Dogpile.com) for the firmware specific to your model number.

Firmware update went wrong

What operating system are you using? The Zen Touch firmware update will fail in Vista or 7 -- you need to run the update from an XP install. Once you successfully get the 2.11 firmware on the Touch, it will then interface with those later OS's without difficulty. Also, what version of Windows Media Player are you running? Believe it or not, this makes a BIG difference. The latest Media Player 11 will cause the firmware flash to fail, as will WMP <= 9. I have three separate players that have experienced this problem, including one that had been disassembled THREE YEARS AGO after a failed flash, and was able to resurrect all utilizing this method:

(1) Uninstall everything Creative: the driver, Jukebox, etc. Delete the Creative folder from Program Files. (Some amendment to these instructions may be in order if you have a Creative sound card -- I have built-in Realtek sound so it didn't apply in my case). A restart may or may not be required: go ahead and do so to be safe.

(2) Plug the device in after restart. Windows will want to find drivers for it -- cancel that process. Open the Device Manager. The Touch should come up with an exclamation point next to it (since the drivers were not uninstalled): right-click and select "Uninstall." I have seen instructions on the Web to also uninstall all USB root hubs, but I have found that unnecessary and a pain if you have a USB keyboard and/or mouse. Unplug the device. Restart.

(2) If you are running a version of Windows Media Player not equal to 10, either install 10 (if you have 9 or below) or roll back from 11 if you have that. Restart.

(3) Plug the device back in. My supposition is that this is particular to WMP 10, hence the problems with other versions. The device should pop up as "Creative Zen Touch:" if Windows asks to find drivers, cancel that process, and the device should now come up as an "MTP device."

(4) Since the firmware flash failed, the Zen is probably in recovery mode. Launch the firmware updater software on the computer, and stay at the language selection screen. Choose option 3, "reload firmware," from the recovery menu. It will inform you that it is "deleting old firmware" and then will give you a short period of time with a dialog saying "start firmware update" on the Zen screen. During this time period (about 2 secs), press the language selection of your choice on the computer in order to start the update. It should go through successfully this time.

Creative zen micro stuck in recovery mode

To Fix any problems with broken firmware form attempted “playsforsure”
firmware updates etc where your pc finds it as a 20mb drive and it sits
in recovery mode and does bugger all:
1. Uninstall all creative software & drivers
2. Uninstall Media Player 11 and Media Player 11 runtime (will require a
reboot for each thing). This is done by going to add/remove programs and
uninstalling (this will put your pc back to wmp10).
3. Re-install the Zen Driver from the creative website and reboot (I just reloaded Media Explorer using my ZMP install CD).
4, Plug Zen in.
5, Make sure you have the firmware update ready, run it but don’t click
the language bit yet), leave the mouse hovering over your language
selection. (for ZMP, just start firmware exe file, there is no language selection. You can get the firmware update from Creative’s site, go to SUPPORT and then DOWNLOADS).
6. On the Zen- select “reload OS” (on ZMP I believe it is Erase or Reload Firmware, something like that, don’t have it in front of me).
7. As soon as it flashes up “reload new firmware now via USB” click the
language button
8. Now the pc should find it and allow you to re-load the
firmware. (it may take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
be fine.
10. Once all is working, you can re-install WMP11 and it will work fine.

Creative Zen Stone 1GB

you may need to update (and format) the firmware of your stone, it is downloadable from creative but unfortunately their support site is under repair.

http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=16424

once they're back on, open the site, click support then downloads, get the firmware upgrade utility (inside it is the firmware) the just run it on your PC with the Stone connected to it.

good luck.

Creative Zen Touch firmware problem

I had the same issue after trying to update firmware the PC kept saying the player was not connected, I have copied the reply below from Creative Customer Services on how I fixed this problem. I was lucky that I have access to an old PC that had WMP 10 so I didn't need to mess with my own PC. However, there was some messing about with the instructions to get the fix. My main tip is follow the instructions below, then go to device manager and uninstall the Zen from your USB list, it will probably be flagged with a yellow triangle. Remove it totally and then reinstall the Zen driver, this worked for me after I had taken the steps listed here;

1. Please uninstall all Creative software & Drivers.
2. If WMP 11 is installed, remove it including Media Player 11 runtime
(may require a reboot for each thing).
Go to add/remove programs and uninstall these two files (this will put
your pc back to wmp10). http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=16737

Related topic is further explained on this page http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#DevicenotrecognizedafterinstallingWindowsMediaPlay
3. Download the following files from the website and save them to a
unique folder.
http://support.creative.com/welcome.aspx
You may have to select your own Product > Choose your Specific Model>
then Double Click.
Down below; please ensure that your Operating System selected is Windows XP.

Driver : Creative Zen and Jukebox Driver Upgrade version 1.30.03
Firmware: Creative Zen Touch PlaysForSure Firmware 2.11.01
You may want to click the Show Details button on the right side for
additional information.

4. Re-install the Zen Driver and reboot the PC and then connect the
player.
5. Make sure the firmware update is ready,
Run the program but don't click the language bit yet), leave the mouse
hovering over your language selection.
6. On the Zen - select the option "reload OS"
7. As soon as it flashes up "reload new firmware now via USB" click the
language button on the firmware.
8. Now PC should find it and allow you to re-load the firmware. (it may
take a few attempts)
9. Once complete, click close and restart the pc. Everything should now
be fine.
10. If installation is successful, you can re-install your WMP11 and
everything should be okay this time.

Good luck

Lost playlist on main screen

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

Firmware Problem Creative Zen Touch 40 GB

· 1. remove all creative software from your pc (do this from start menu/settings/control panel/add or remove programs)
2. Uninstall Windows Media Player 11 and Windows Media Player 11 runtime. This will rollback the pc to an earlier version of WMP.
3. Download the latest version of the zen driver from this location:
http://us.creative.com/support/downl...ame=Windows+XP
4. Make sure the zen is not connected to the pc and install run the exe file to install the software on your pc. at some point, the install will tell you that the unit is not connected. Connect the unit to proceed. it will also notify you that you are replacing an existing software, or something to that effect. I accepted or said OK to this popup. Once the firmware is installed, my started to work fine. You can now reinstall WMP from microsoft website. Hope this works for you.

you might want to verify that your new player has the latest firmware available, as this might address the unresponsive-button issue you're having. Firmware updates are surprisingly easy - you just download the firmware file from Creative's website, plug in your player, and double-click the downloaded file. It's that easy.

All else failes download the recovery tool from creatives website.

Middle of a firmware updated bricked my Zen TOuch

This solution is from another post, and it was how I recovered from the same problem. "I had the same problem and the solution is documented on the Creative labs message boards. This happens if you upgrade the firmware with a computer that has media player 11, Which KILLS your Zentouch. (Thanks Creative!!) The solution, as partially noted by the other poster, is to rollback Media Player to version 10 AND to eliminate all traces of Creative software on your PC. Reboot, then plug in the Zen, it will be regognized by MP10, and then run the firmware upgrade software. I found it easier to do this by using a different computer rather than uninstalling software from mine. After this WMP 11 does work."
