Check inside the microwave once you open it, you may see something like an schematic diagram in there. You can check the part numbers there by part markings.

Let me know the model number to find you a part supplier.

Unless you know they\'re bad, I would test them first depending on the symptoms, since they may not be the culprit(s).

Diode

The high voltage diode converts the A/C power output of the transformer to D/C, doubling the voltage to nearly 5,000 volts. This high voltage powers the magnetron which emits the energy that cooks the food. If the diode burns out, a lower A/C voltage reaches the magnetron, which is not sufficient to power the magnetron. When the diode fails it is often visibly burned out. If it appears to be good, it can be tested with a volt-Ohm meter capable of testing diodes. High voltage diodes frequently fail and are one of the most common points of failure in a microwave oven. A regular meter with a diode checker will not work to check these diodes. You have to use a meter with a 9 volt battery or put a 9 volt battery in series with the diode to check it.

If the microwave does not heat, one of the door switches might be defective. Microwave ovens normally have three door switches, if any of them fail the microwave does not turn on and does not heat. Check the switches for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Magnetron

If the microwave oven doesn't heat the magnetron tube might have burned out. The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. If the microwave oven is turned on when it is empty this can cause the magnetron to burn out. Once it is burned out it has to be replaced, it's not repairable.

High Voltage Capacitor

If the microwave doesn't heat the high voltage capacitor might be defective. The high voltage capacitor works with the high voltage diode to convert the output of the transformer to DC voltage and to double the output voltage. If the capacitor is burned out the entire high voltage circuit stops working properly. The high voltage capacitor can be checked with a special VOM meter which has a capacitance testing capability. Be aware that the high voltage capacitor can retain a charge of more than 3,000 volts and can injure or kill a person if not handled properly. Only trained technicians should perform this type of testing.

Tip

Microwave works normally but does not heat.

If the microwave operates normally, but does not heath at all, then it can be the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

Just stopped heating anything last night, it's a Hot Point Counter Saver Plus but says on inside to call GE 1-800-626-6000

On that same label there is a MODEL number that we need to show you a parts listing of what parts may have failed. Hotpoint and GE are on in the same... the only difference is the brand name on the decals. Of course they use different model numbers.... Your model number will be similar to this: RVM1435BD001 I will use that as my parts reference model number as the interal parts that may have failed will be pretty much identical.

When a microwave just out of the blue stops heating usually the either the diode or the capacitor has failed.

See items 49 and 50 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=221110

This unit also has 2 thermostats that can also cause it to stop heating. One actually controls the fan speed and the other is an over temp sensor that should shut off everything. The thermostat that controls fan speed shuts off the magnetron power on some units until the unit cools down and then it will work again.

If the magnetron has failed they usually make a loud buzzing sound when you turn on the unit from being cold. (Stuck oscillator) This can also cause the HV power diode and the unit fuse to fail.

Sears parts direct also has the parts for this unit here:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Hotpoint-Parts/Microwave-Parts/Model-RVM1435BD001/1811/0123370/G0302144/00001?blt=06&prst=&shdMod=

I change out the diode FIRST (after testing the old diode to make certain the diode has in fact failed.) I also test the capacitor while the diode is disconnected from the capacitor.

At this time I think you have a diode or a capacitor problem. If you have someone you know that can use a meter I can pass the information to them on how to test the diode and the capacitor so that you don't order parts that you DO NOT need.

If I got your model number wrong you can enter your model number on the displayed page of either link above. Or respond here with your model number and I will look up your unit.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

All funtchions work except it dos'nt heat up anything Light comes on, turntable works, timer works. But no heat

I tried the ICE60705 number and it did not cross http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/modelsearch.aspx?model=IEC60705

Is that a serial number by chance?

To do any of the below the chassis cover must be removed.

To perform a diode resistance check you must first ground the high voltage capacitor several times to avoid a nasty shock.

To check the Diode you have to disconnect one side if the diode before reading resistance. Read the Diode on R X 1000 and then reverse the meter leads is should only ONE way. IF it reads both directions or not at all then it has failed.

To check the HV Capacitor (After grounding) you reverse the leads repeatedlyand watch for a momentary jump on an analog meter EACH time the leads are reversed. No jump of the meter needle = bad Capacitor.

Diodes can be found here:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/?keyword=Diode%2c+Sharp

I know that this is an 850W free standing Microwave. I just can recall the model number from memory.

If you find either one of the 2 parts bad I recommend contacting a LOCAL appliance parts center with parts in hand for the simple fact the model number is not crossing.

Just make sure they failed per directions above before replacement.

Thanks again for choosing FixYa.

Kelly

P.s. If the above parts check out good then that leaves the door switch or the magnetron as possible failures. If the Magnetron has failed you may want to evaluate repair vs total unit replacement cost of the microwave.

Whirlpool model number MH7140XFB no longer heats

you either need a new h.v. capacitor or h.v. diode in the magnetron circuitry if you cant hear it cycle when it runs as in a low pitched hummmm when its drawing current to operate the magnetron tube, each part runs about $30 to $45 each, normally its the h.v. capacitor though

My microwave runs but does not cook

If the microwave operates normally, but does not heath at all, then it can be the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, your model number did not return any result, contact the seller here to purchase parts.
