I would replace the water filter on the back of the refrigerator.they eventually become clogged and prevent the normal water flow to the ice maker.

6ED2FHGXVA ice maker making too much ice, why?

That is the dual water control valve that is leaking water to the ice maker. The ice maker will only fill for 7.5 seconds and then the water is turned off but if the valve is bad it will continue to leak water drips until it overflows the ice maker and forms an ice wonderland inside your freezer. There is no picture of the valve but here is a link to the valve part=> http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=q2qDfOBHgas&subid=&offerid=92089.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fwhirlpool-valve-inlt-w10158157-ap4371188.html

Why does my icemaker over fill the ice tray?

Ice Maker Doesn't Turn Off If your ice maker keeps making ice, even when it is full:
1Lift the bail wireto shut off the ice maker, and remove the ice bin. Then, using a screwdriver if necessary, remove the ice maker, clean it thoroughly, and then reinstall it.
2If the problem persists, consider removing and replace the entire ice maker and valve. With this type of problem, you can have it repaired, but it's often wiser and less expensive in the long run to replace the unit entirely.

Ice maker leaking water into ice bin and not making ice fast enough.

Replace the Icemaker Water valve in the bottom rear of the Fridge. Its the part the water line hooks to.

My freezer is not freezing anymore please help as can not afford a new one ..thank you

Hi,
Follow the steps mentioned below to solve the problem:
First remove the ice bin and look inside the mold of the ice maker to see if it is full of ice. If the ice sensing arm is down ( on position) and the ice maker is full of ice, there is a failure inside the ice maker and the ice maker should be replaced.
If there is no ice in the ice maker, look at the fill tube on the rear of the ice maker. If the fill tube is frozen up the ice maker can't fill.
You can defrost the fill tube with a hair dryer.
The water valve on the rear of the refrigerator supplies water to the water dispenser and the ice maker. Since the water dispenser is working, the only line that could be blocked runs up the back of the cabinet and attaches to the fill tube for the ice maker. The water valve could be bad and not sending water to the ice maker.
If the fill tube freezes again you should replace the water valve.
Hope this helps.

Is it more cost effective to keep ice maker on or on/off?

Your ice maker is designed to cut itself off when the bin is full . Leaving it off too long will cause problems . Water fill line could freeze up giving a false indication of leaking water valve to a technician , thermostat inside ice maker could crack ( same as a defrost bimetal ) , so , It is best to leave the ice maker on . It uses no electricity when it turns itself off due to " enough " ice .

ICE MAKER NOT WORKING PROPERLY. ICE WILL FREEZE

See if the fill tube is partially blocked with ice. It's the tube where the water comes into the ice maker.
The water inlet valve on the back of unit opens when the ice maker needs water. If the valve doesn't seal good because of sediment or wear it will continue to drip and when the water reaches the ice maker supply tube it will freeze. You can take the water line off the valve and watch to see if it drips.

A strainer before the inlet valve can also get stopped up restricting flow.

The ice maker has stopped filling with water and making ice

The Ice maker water supply is controlled by a water solenoid valve that is engaged when the temperature is cold enough and or the timer on the ice maker triggers it to open...when the Ice is dumped the timer causes the gears to keep turning and the arm the sweeps the ice out will circle around engaging the fill valve (solenoid)...(check to see if the arm that sweeps the ice out is stuck in one position say down or up and that it never moves over a period of 4-8 hours...The Ice maker will not work if

1. the Ice maker is broken..like I just mentioned..(stuck in one position,,,sometimes it can get stuck and a manual push or pull of the arm may allow it to become unstuck and it will start up again if the timer is not burned out...or a gear is not sheared which allows the are to cycle around) .
2. The water filter is clogged..(but generally you would not have water from the dispenser) as is what happened to my Kenmore...but it started up after i changed out the filter.
3. Or the solenoid itself is bad.....(Service tech time)...generally the other 2 problems can be handled by someone with good mechanical skills.
$. the freezer temperature is not set low enough...I'm sure it is...but is is a possibility.
I hope one of these helps...I just try to cover all the bases so one can get there problem taken care of...good luck...please rate me...The Fang

Side by side gallery ...water leak

  • it sounds like the water valve is not closing fast enough.
  •  this will cause the ice-maker to overflow a little.
  •  your ice-maker may have an adjustment on it to control how long it keeps the water valve on.
  • it should be a screw with a + and - sing on it. it may be under the ice-maker plastic cover.
  • if it keeps doing it then you may need a new water valve.
