Question about Samsung SCX-4100 All-In-One Laser Printer
When ever I try to print/copy something, I get the a loud vibration from the scanner compartment and a "scanner error" flashing in the lcd screen.
I have already opened it and can conclude the following. The problem lies with any one of the following:
1) CCD/Light Tube (ruled this out as, I could get one photocopy to work, after which the problem reproduced. Also, the printer is correctly detecting the home position (black white pattern).
2) Motor/Belt: Its slow and a bit jerky, but it rotates with acceptable RPM. Actually its hard to tell, because actual performance is when its all closed and packed under the flat bed scanner glass.
3) Distance of CCD/Light tray from top glass: This tray sits on a single rod, is controlled with a toothed belt. THE CCD itself sits on springs inside this tray. Could this be the problem, again its hard to tell as because I can actually see what happens when its all closed and packed under the flat bed scanner glass.
Have you cleaned and lubricated the scanner rail and the pad where it slides across.
Sometimes those rails become dry and get dirty.
Also if you can, reseat all the connectors to the scanner. That would require taking the covers off the machine, You may have a bad connection on one of the scanner cables.
Lastly the motor itself may be bad. But drag or a bad connection seems more likely to be the problem.
