Question about Onkyo TX-SR604 Receiver

Open Question

White line at top of tv screen when using hdmi passthrough

I connected my Scientific Atlanta 8300HDC dvr cable box to the TX-SR604 hdmi input as well as my dvd player to the other hdmi input and sent hdmi out to my Toshiba 47HL67 47" Regza LCD tv. It started to develop a bright white approx 1/4" wide line with moving shadows in it completely across the top of the screen. Most notably when switching from a standard digital broadcast to a high definition broadcast and back. I called TimeWarner and they sent out a tech who said it was the receiver and bypassed it sending the hdmi directly to the tv and then I sent an optical audio cable to the receiver for surround sound. That was 3 days ago and the problem has not returned. However, switching from dvd to tv and back is a hassle because the receiver can't control the video inputs. Is this a problem with the SR604, an hdmi problem or an incompatability with TimeWarner's signal thru hdmi?

Looks like i'm having the same problem. Only fix seems to be to switch the receiver off and back on again. I think I'm going to call onkyo about it.

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

HDMI signal cuts out for a few seconds constantly from receiver to television. It does it when switched to cable box and the roku box. Onkyo TX-SR606 Scientific Atlanta Cable box thru HDMI Roku Box...

Mine did the same thing where the screen would go black for a few seconds and then the picture and sound came back. I would try (1) switch HDMI cables, (2) try a different HDMI input in the back of the receiver, (3) try different input in the back of the TV. None of these seemed to work with mine. I finally ended up running the cable box direct to the TV and only run the audio through the reciever via coax or digital. No more problems. I think the HDMI inputs in the back of the reciever have a problem continuously carrying the signal if it is the leaset bit weak.

HDMI cable hooked up, now CLOSED CAPTIONING is stuck on!

It has got to be the box. I would try to contact Scientific Atlanta if any way possible. The TV doesn't choose what inputs it shows CC.In other words, it would show it on all Inputs if it was the TV. Good luck and Thanks

How to eliminate error screen:"your tv does not allow display of this program through the dvi input source. please chose another tv input source."

"cable box to tv is hdmi cable"

Everything I've read on the web says cable box to tv connection must also use component (rgb) cables. The error is coming from the cable box (STB). All the Scientific Atlanta (SA) cable boxes seem have this Digital Rights Management (DRM) bug and the only way to be totally rid of the error is to replace the digital connection from box to the TV with an analog connection.

My remote wasn't working until I programmed it to work with itself ... (how odd it wasn't done already).

"CBL" button and ""OK/SEL" held down simulataneously for 3 seconds ... then "001" for the Scientific Atlanta. If the unit turns off, you're in business.

Off Air?

The Scientific Atlanta box was a cable box and recieved CATV signals. The Direct TV box is satellite only. You might check if it has a built in ATSC tuner for off air digital signals. Direct TV in most locations offers the major networks in HD format.

Set top box and remote control

I have the same problem. When I move the 8300HDC away from the TV, or power off the TV, the remote responds. There seems to be some kind of RF interference, which makes no sense since the TV shouldn't emit RF, and the the box should be using IR only for remote input. My TV is a 46" LCD Samsung. Try turning off the TV and see if the 8300HDC responds to powering on and off with the remote.
