I just purchased a new printhead for my i860 printer since the yellow (6Y) would no longer print. After installing the new printhead, nothing but the 3eBK ink will print. If I re-install the old printhead, everything prints but the 6Y ink. Any suggestions for how to get the new print head to print the 6C, 6Y, 6M, and 6BK (or for how to get the old printhead to print the missing 6Y - I tried cleaning the old printhead with alchohol, but that did not unclog it).

If the yellow cartridge is full then you may have blocked yellow printhead nozzles. Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles. After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the print then a new printhead is required. A new printhead maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase a new printer.
It sounds like your black (K) or Black/Yellow (KY) head needs to be replaced. The problem appears to be in the top half of the black head. Without knowing more (like what make/model the printer is) I can't help more than that.
The make and type of cartridge is generally given in the users handbook/manual provided with the printer. If you do not have that ,you can log on to Canon web site and then go to support. Select your printer model and you can find the the specification of cartridge to be used with your printer.
The list of the cartridges is given below:
BCI-3eBk Black ink tank, BCI-6Bk Black ink tank, BCI-6C Cyan ink tank, BCI-6M Magenta ink tank, BCI-6Y Yellow ink tankYou can also go the this link and download the manual if you do not have the samehttp://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_ip_series/pixma_ip4000#Overview
I had a similar problem. Pages in blue, but nozzle check in black. Tried what you tried. Changed the ink ($). Still no change. Then tried the maintenance option to clean the bottom plate. And now it is working. Go figure.
I had similar problem: everything muted and with brownish tint. Tried everything, finally discovered that I installed wrong cartridge: 6PC instead of 6C. The "photo" cartridges are pretty much the same, make sure you have the right ones: 6C, 6M, and 6Y.
The gray-colored arm (it's not that small) is to the right of the cyan cartridge. It is the arm or extension of the gray-colored hinged cover. Remove all ink cartridges, lift the gray-colored arm up, and pull the print head out. Clean the print head with a cotton ball soaked with water or rubbing alcohol. Dry and re-install the print head.
