when it shuts off there is a short beep

  • Kayce Peters Feb 24, 2008

    I originally only had 256MB memory.I purchased
and added to my laptop a 512MB card. It ran fine until yesterday when I
removed the cards so I could get some dust out of the inside of my
computer. I didn't want to take the chance of static to my memory
cards. After I put everything back together, when I try to boot, it
only comes on for a few seconds, beeps once, and then turns itself off.

I tried what you suggested and still have the same problem. I tried to boot using only one memory card, with each card, and still the same.

Depending on your BIOS brand a single beep ussaully means A: a successful POST (Not likely since the machine does not contine to boot the OS)
Or B. a memory issue
The RAM itself is most likely the issue. You said you upgraded the memory... If you have the old RAM stick try putting that one back in and seeing if it boots. If it does you most likely damaged (very easy via static electricity) the RAM stick when you took it out.

If you added an additional RAM stick when you upgraded, remove that stick leaving the old one in and see if it boots.

Hi,
you have,nt seated the memory module back correctly.
push module in at an angle, usually about 45 degrees.
while pushing it back in, apply pressure, to push down towards the motherboard. ** check for any specs of Dust**
also check that you have,nt knocked the hard-drive ribbon cable in the process of cleaning.

Hello there I have a problem with my nokia n900 memory. I cant save anything in my phone nor can i open saved items. When i go to settings, it says memory card is corrupted. But memory for installable...

hi there!

first thing to do is to powercycling the phone (turn off, remove battery, simcard, memory card) leave it like that for 2mins, put everything back in. if the same error occurs, try putting that memory card on another phone, if it works fine there, the phone itself maybe the one having problems. to make sure, try putting another memory card on that phone, if its all ok, they its just having a hard time reading your memory card (clean the gold contacts of the memory card by damp cotton buds, not dripping wet ok?) . if your memory card dont work w other phones, it needs to be replaced. if the phone wont read any other memory cards, bring it out for repair already and keep your memory card until phone is fixed.

Kandar98kmy mobile have been hanged and not showing memory card and mobile did not restoring when i command for restoe it show password but i dont know password

hi there!

if you're not the one who set the password for the phone, there's no way of resetting it then. though there are some local technicians who do phone reset but its paid. its also not safe to flash the phone if you get/download softwares from the internet. if its also not showing the memory card, try the card to other phones, if its recognize by other phones then the card is working fine. turn off, remove battery from phone and sim and memory card, leave it like that for 2mins, then put everything back in, if its still not seeing the memory card, the gold contact on the memory card slot may need cleaning (just wipe with water damped cotton balls). if all else fails, you may need a technician to open up the unit and clean, fix it from the inside.

The comp. screen wont come on it wont even beep and the blue light just stays lit while the fan runs

1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cable from the wall socket.
2. Open the CPU.
3. Remove the video card and memory card from the slots.
4. Use a blower to remove the dust inside the slots. You may also use a soft brush to clean the inside of the slots.
5. Wipe the gold pins of the video card and the memory card using a clean cloth (do not use alcohol or oil).
6. Reseat the video and memory cards.
7. Turn the computer back on.

If same problem occurs, try using another monitor to isolate the problem. If it's still not working, replace the video card.

I have nokia n70..till yesterday it was working fine..it got switched coz its battery went off..today when i was chargin tried to switch it on..but the screen is nly white no display, its makind beep...

Power cycle the phone. Here's what you need to do:

1. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the SIM card and the memory card.
3. Give for about 5 minutes and then put everything back.
4. Turn the phone ON.

If the problem still the same, you need to bring it to the Nokia Care Center for possible firmware upgrade.

Have a great day!

Dell Dimension 2400 Freezes

you have done some good troubleshooting here..!!

I suggest you check your memory using this ms software
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
or if you want some ms independency
use this one
http://www.memtest86.com/
or better yet take your memory stick(s) out and just put a new memory stick and check if how the system performance changes.

let either test run overnight and see if some memory fault can be detected as some of those intermittent freezing problems are related with memory.

suggestions:
1. don't leave the case open.. that doesn't make the system run cooler... keep things closed, undust and keep making sure your fans are working.. if it's an overheating problem your cpu just shuts the sytem down or starts running slower if (throttling is avaliable in *********** board/bios)
2. when you reseated everything did you watch for ESD?.. esd could cause issues with internal components and if they're minor it could be translated into intermittent problems associated with some tiny component in your motherboad.

In my experience intermittent freezing problems are quite hard to diagnosed and you need to keep swapping things in an out to come to a certainty on failing componets..

Card Error

Hi, On another brand/model, PC message "card error" indicates a problem with the memory card of the camera. A couple of things we tried to restore it: 1. Remove the memory card, wipe clean especially the gold contacts making sure that it is dry and shiny (also the battery if possible); 2. Blow into the opening/slot where the memory is inserted to remove any dust, dirt or even a bit moisture; 3. Let the camera and removed memory card sit for a while at room temperature; 4. Put everything back and try again; 5. If it still doesn't work, it is possible that for some unknown reasons, the memory card was corrupted. This would mean re-formatting it but of course that would mean erasing whatever pictures and/or data are stored inside; 6. Try a recovery software with a card reader to try and recover whatever is possible and format the card; 7. It is preferable to format the card using the camera rather than the PC; Sometimes just removing and reinserting the card works. Hope the above gives you an idea or two. Pls post back how things are or if you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
