Question about Summagraphics SummaSketch III Graphic Tablet

Skipping and Shaking cursor

My tablet was just fine for the first two months, than all of a sudden it started to get bad. The cursor, whether with pen or mouse, literally shakes and skips rapidly, and makes very jagged lines. Ive reinstalled the driver, checked the balance of the sensitivity, and such. Nothing works!. It wasn't as bad when it started ,but it gradually yet really quickly got worse and worse every time I used it.
I than tried it at a school computer which had CS3 and some other various tablet driver things, and it was just fine. I'd really like to fix this asap, I cannt make decent artwork or ink with consistant lines, and it is VERY! fustrating.

x_x anyone to help? I hardly want to deal with phoning a company, those are always such a huge hassle and hardly do any good, Im no good over a phone.

Mouse is trembling, shaking, we have reinstalled software, checked settings, uplugged, used system restore, tried different board & mouse, changed out keyboard, nothing is working.

When the tablet is enabled my cursor traces a small circle around a fixed axis  wherever it's placed.

No matter where I move the tablet it still occurs.  I'm wondering if this isn't it tracing a sine wave noise signal that's being backfed from the motherboard's integral serial port.

I'm going to get a pair of ferrite donut noise filters and wind both cords a few turns through them.

Both options should be tried. A generic power supply usually does not fix this problem however the Summagraphics power supply will (Has better filtering and regulation) need a good quality 12VDC 200 mA power supply, use the plug from your old power supply as the plug size is not always easy to find the correct one. Think the center pin needs to be +ve.

These guys still have all Summagraphics parts and digitizers and may be able to help you: http://www.interworldusa.com

I had a similar problem years ago w/ my ss III 12x12 that had worked flawlessly for years. I talked to tech support and they said move it away from monitor (crt) or other source of RF interference - this did not help mine. I tried replacing the power supply w/ generic one - no help. I noticed that the power supply voltage was spiking when check w/o load. After talking to an electric guy I know, he suggested a voltage regulator. Finally I built a home-made voltage regulator and wired it into the generic supply line -Problem solved This was about 10 years ago - still working good today.

There is a problem with the compatability of your tablet and your monitor. You either have to change your monitor to a different refresh rate or simply move your tablet abit further way from your monitor. If possible, you could change your tablet to "single mode" (depending on your tablet).

I have exactly the same problem as you, my tablet worked perfectly for the first three months and then started to act weird, shaking and skipping screen areas, even if i only touch it with my forearm.

Uninstalling/Re-Installing drivers didn't solved anything, so i started switching my tablet to different usb ports in my pc, and from one to another, the problem got a lot better. It didin't solved it, but works "decent". So, comparing yor experience with mine, it's probably an usb-port problem, rather than the tablet itself i thik.

I will test it in othe computerts to see how it goes

I own a Graphire2 and I have often had the cursor shake like this. Usually unplugging and replugging the USB cable from the computer does the trick... and if it doesn't, restarting the computer usually does. I've never really had to fight with drivers.

Tablet pen's cursor skips around in 3 places?

The cursor skipping in three places is apparently caused by the connectors inside the tablet getting dirty or corroded.
Fortunately, you can easily fix this problem yourself! All you need to do is unscrew the back of your tablet, unplug the connectors and clean them with a q-tip dipped in alcohol.
There is a video on YouTube that shows you step-by-step how to do it(it's easy!).
It's called: Howto fix dead areas on any graphics tablet and it's posted by riodroid.
Here's a link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ff7Vw-0kPsE

Hope this helps!

My Genius Mousepen 8x6 tablet isn't working with the pen. If the pen touches the tablet, the light lights up, but the cursor doesn't click and it won't move either. The mouse is working fine, though.

My i608 pen stopped working today. I've had it for a month. The mouse was working fine, but the pen wouldn't work at all. Then I left the mouse on the pad and used the pen while the mouse was on the pad, and the pen started working again. Now it works even without the mouse on the pad. Did it re-establish the radio connection or something by doing that? Anyway, saved me the $25 replacement cost.

My cursor won't stop shaking excessively. I can't click on anything either unless I slam down on the mouse really hard.

Have you replaced the batteries?
Otherwise, reduce the sensitivity of the mouse in the Control Panel.

Wacom tablet won't recognize pen

Hmm. I've had a similar thing happen with my tablet. Have you tried removing the tablet pen from the list of tools in tablet preferences and then adding it to the list again before checking the 'About' section of the tablet pen set-up and clicking the 'diagnose' button there in? As that worked for me when my tablet pen was not working. The pen was recognized by the tablet after that.

Why does my tablet suddenly start to randomly click and drag?

Sometimes the tablet (especially ones with buttons at the top such as Cut, Copy, Paste etc) reacts to pressure and not the tablet itself. Make sure theres nothing over them, that might help.

We have a digitizer we are trying to resurrect: SummaSketch III with 4-button Diamond Puck 12 x 12 MM compatible version 1.91 Win XP SP2 (version 5.01 build 2600) Tablet Works 7.46.0619 com1 All buttons work and are assignable The puck works in mouse mode. In WYPIWYG mode there seems to be some problem: In Tablet Works Control Panel, the digitizer area doesn't stick - the (almost) whole digitizer area is still used; a small selectable area cannot be defined. I use this in AutoCAD with the Wintab Comaptible Digitizer ADI 4.2 - by AutoDesk. AutoCAD will recognize the tablet and allow me to configure regions and a screen pointing area. Menu items on the tablet work and the screen area allows geometry selection. Here's the problem (you could feel it coming couldn't you): Counting up from the lower left corner of the tablet The tablet "sees" (steady indicator light) from about (4.75cm, 4.3cm) (my ref: X-5) to (28.0cm, 26.5cm) (my ref: B-27) In the GTCO tablet configuration utilities the cursor can paint the test screen area from the lower left corner to about 75% of the test screen area up and to the right. A few years ago we had a problem with the puck: A button wasn't working. We repaired it. The cross-hairs cover fell out and the coil wire broke, we resoldered it. I don't remember clearly but we may have tried to replace some of the coil wire. Questions: How can I repair this here myself? If the coil is not the correct sensitivity will that cause the symptoms we have? What is the correct wire size and number of turns for the coil? Any suggestions on how to rewind it? The felt on the bottom of the puck is worn. Do you have a suggestion for a replacement material? What is a good way to keep the cross-hairs cover from falling out? We are a not-for-profit NGO that works to help rural villagers have good empolyment by making building materials on a small scale. We use AutoCAD to design buildings that use their materials and equipment and tools for them to produce the materials. We also mentor interns from local and foreign universities and colleges. We would appreciate any help you can give us. Sincerely, Geoffrey
