That is the DPTV310 chassis I believe the problem could be in the power supply input board or the large signal board. I have a source to locate those boards used if you would like me to post it. They sell parts cheap and all parts are in good working order. I have used their parts many times.

Philips 47 inch rear projection tv turn on but no picture and has a chirping sound in the back

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Sony rear projection standby light stays on color red, has no pic or sound ? help please.

Hi,it sounds like its time to replace the lamp, especially if tv is between 2-3 yrs .Any clicking noises? if you do it could be an issue with the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast.Your lamp is made by Philips and it last 6000-8000 hrs ,make sure you get the original, generics dont provide same quality and life time is way shorter 4000 hrs 6 mths - 1 yr.Have a blessed life!

Hello repko,

This looks like a problem related to your High Voltage Protection circuit. This circuit shuts the TV down when it senses a high current condition (a short in a vital circuit). It may not involve extensive repairs, but it will involve some repair work. I can give you a better diagnosis if you do a few things for me.

1) unplug the TV and take the lower rear panel off
2) look at the back of the panel or in the TV for a chart showing you the diagnostic LEDs
3) Look at see if LED D912 is red or not (this may differ in your model, if so write down the numbers of all the diagnostic LEDs and there condition on or off red or green.
4)post these in a reply to this topic.

Once this is done I'll be able to give you some idea of how extensive this may be.

Thank you,

I hope this helps,

I am on satalite and i have a 60inch philips televition 2004 modle and the power comes on but there isnt a sound or picture.what might be the problem?and is there a fuse andor a reset button?could it be...

Hi,

The easiest test to determine which is defective (TV or receiver) is to replace the receiver temporarily with another audio/video source such as a DVD player, even an old VCR or a video camera. This is assuming that the sat receiver is connected to the TV using yellow, red & white RCA connectors. Additionally, some models/versions of these TVs show a blinking light if and when it has detected an internal fault.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Did you have color problems in past? Most of these sets have convergence problems. Amps goes out. But you should have seen some type of distortion from color, red, blue, green. If no color problems then maybe vertical ouput out or horizontal output bad.
