I have followed all the steps to make my machine print but it says there is no computer connection

  • Banny Duck Mar 22, 2008

When I try to open the HP solution center I get the error message, "HP imaging device could not be initialized because it was not found." I think this is because I can't find the HPZPML driver on my windows XP computer. Also I have seen the message no device detected error message. I sure wish there was a fix for this problem. I have called HP support a number of times but haven't received answer to this problem.

Please follow the instructions step-by-step... troubleshooting starts with the most simple first.. then gets more complicated...

Also, if you get to the point that you have to un-install and re-install your drivers, it's always better to download the latest ones rather than use the CD that came with the printer. I'll provide you the link for the driver page as well at the end of the fix-it steps.

1. Check connections and status

  1. Check to make sure that the device cables are connected securely at each end.
  2. Make sure the device is turned on and not in an error state. If unsure, turn the unit off and then back on again.
  3. Try to access the device through Solution Center again.
  4. If the device is still not detected, proceed to Solution two.
2. Check that there is a printer icon in the printer folder
  1. Click Start and then Settings or Control Panel .
  2. Click Printers or Printers and Faxes .
  3. Make sure there is an icon for the printer you are trying to use.
    • If there is no icon and you are connecting via a USB cable, disconnect the cable, and restart the computer. Reinsert the HP software CD and choose Add a device . Connect the unit when prompted by the installer.
    • If there is no icon and it is a wireless connection, run the wireless setup wizard as outlined in the product setup guide, then reinsert the CD and choose Add a device .
    • If there is no icon and it is an Ethernet connection, reinsert the CD and choose Add a device .
3. Check that the Digital Imaging Monitor is running
NOTE: If you chose a custom install and did not select HP Digital Imaging Device Functions, the Digital Imaging Monitor will not be installed. Proceed to Solution five.
  1. Press the CTRL , ALT , and Delete keys at the same time to open the Task Manager.
  2. Look to see if HPQTRA08 and HPQSTE08 are running.
  3. If they are not running, restart the computer and then try again.
  4. If they are still not showing in the list, proceed to Solution four.
4. Check that the HPZPML driver is running
  1. In Windows XP and 2000, click Start , Control Panel , Administrative Services , and then click the Services Icon . Scroll through the list looking for HPZPML to make sure it is set to automatic and that it is running.
  2. In Windows 98/ME, open the Task Manager by pressing CTRL , ALT , and then Delete . The file HPZIPM should be listed.
  3. If the HPZML or HPZIM file are not available, restart the computer. If they still do not show up, proceed to Solution five.
5. Uninstall and reinstall the software
  1. Insert the software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installer should automatically start. GET THE NEWEST DRIVERS FROM HP.COM -- SEE BELOW FOR LINK!
  2. Click Uninstall on the installer screen. If Uninstall is not an option, the software installation was incomplete. Click Install .
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions until the printer software is completely installed.
Here's the link for the software/driver downloads... choose your operating system and go from there...

I want to wireless print to my HP 2610 printer through an Airport express router using Windows xp. When I attempt to install the driver I get a message that a printer cannot be detected on the network...

First install the Printer with USB connectivity.
Then insert the printer driver CD again. You will get the Add a Device option this time on the Welcome Screen.

Select it. Now before you continue, just add the exceptions to the firewall list.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01545804
Perform the steps given on the above document to add the exceptions to firewall.

Then Make a right click on My Computer Icon on your desktop.
Go to Hardware Tab. Select Device Mananger.
Go to View Tab on Device manager and select Show Hidden Devices.
Then search for Multifunction Adapter. Uninstall the printer icon under it.
Now click on Add a Device.
Try installing now.

Cannot print from computer. printer will print test pages, though

How the printer is connected to PC Via USB or using Network Cable. If it is connected Netwrok cable than printer configuration page and on netwrok configuration there will be IP Address if this is valid IP Address than reinstall drivers and upgrade the Firmware of the printer.

If Printer is connected USB than try different USB Cable and try different USB Port on the computer
If USB port on the computer is working fine and check in Device Manager if the printer has detected as unknown device or not detected at all.
If detected as unknown device than reinstall printer driver if not detected at all than USB Port on the printer is faulty you need to set up hardware repair of the printer.
