You must remove the light engine then locate the filter by removing a black cowel looking device at top of engine held by 4 screws, then you will see the rectagular filter held with 4 screws you must pry out the filter it does not come out easy. Clean it with clear water and blow out with compressed air look at it through light to make sure it is clean. reassemble The sevice manual will show you how to remove the light engine.

I had the same problem, service center said it would cost over $1,000 to perform the work. Buy an new TV and move on, After replacing three lamp assemblies in five years and now this I'll never buy a Panasonic again!

Clean filter message reset

the filter will need to be cleaned and if the set still shuts down then I would suspect the fan may need to be cleaned and possibly replaced.

After turning on the projector, I get a message that says clean the filter and reset the timer. How do I do that? I have cleaned the filter.

Procedure for resetting filter time.
Pressing the RESET button for about 3 seconds displays the FILTER TIME menu. Select the RESET using button to reset the timer. : RESET <- CANCEL Selecting the RESET resets the count of the lamp timer to 0. memo Perform this function only when you have cleaned or replaced the air filter. The filter timer counts the used time of the air filter after cleaning or replacement, to display the messages about the air filter. Incorrect performing causes incorrect operation of the messages. memo About caring for the air filter, please refer to the section "Air Filter".

Panasonic PT-60LCX64 Air Filter Cleaning

Cleaning filter for the Panansonic PT-501LCX64.

I just had a T.V. tech do this. The filters are located on the two removable filters on the back side of the T.V. They look like the speaker units. He removed those two units, unplugged them & set them on the floor. He took some type of electronic cleaner with a cloth & wiped them down. The filters themselves are plastic. He explained that air flows through some tube connected to these plastic filters for cooling down below. He admitted they didn't look dirty--put everything back together & it is working fine now.

I imagine that dirty or not the timer is automatically set for every 400 hrs. of use to give you the prompt that the filter needs cleaning & will shut off in one minute so you can call a T.V. tech?

So to reset the timer--follow the other detailed prompts listed on this board & or use your owners manual & follow the prompts for replacing the bulb. That should take you somewhere to reset the timer--so you have another 400 hours of operation.

I believe it's with the T.V. turned off--hold down the down volume on your tv itself while holding the swap button on the remote control for 5-7 seconds---then follow the prompts. You should see a prompt for replacing a bulb & then one for filter cleaning. Then just reset the timer.

Hopefully this will help?

OSD Message Panasonic PT-50LC14 Air Filter Needs Cleaning

I had the same problem and the stupid tv would shut off after 1 minute. We opened the silver front panel , took the bulb out cleaned it, took the cover off the grey box to the right and very carefully vaccumed the filter and wiped it off with a microfiber cloth. It works great now!!! Make sure you unplug your tv before messing with it.
