For my Toshiba laptop that had this error, I had to go to the Toshiba Europe site

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

In order to find the drivers that would fix this problem.

It seems that there was a Vista (and possibly XP) upgrade that broke a Connexant sound driver. The US/Canandian support sites have an old driver(3.44) while the European site has a brand spanking new driver (4.8.0.0.12.14) that fixed the problem for me. It's even labeled as a "World Wide" driver so I have no idea why the US/Canadian toshiba support sites still have the old one.

Open Control Panel, open System. Click the hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Scroll down to Sound, voice and game controllers. Click the + sign. Do you see a yellow ! point or a red X ? If so right click once on the device, a pop-up window will open. Slide to & left click Uninstall it will uninstall pretty fast. Close all opened windows. Restart the system. When the system has finished loading place the CD (that came with the PC) into your cdrom. Do NOT let windows find & install the driver/software on it's own. Close/cancel windows pop-ups to find & install the software for you.

Open control Panel again, open system. Click the hardware tab & click the Device Manager button. Scroll down to sound, audio & game controller. Click the + sign. Find the yellow ! point. Right click once. Left click update. You want to show windows where to get your sound drivers by using the Browse button. Find your CD that you put into the cdrom by opening the dropdown menue within the browse window. Look for the folder Driver, open it by double clicking it. Find Audio folder & open it. Look for windows XP/NT (if this is your operating system). open it. Click setup.exe. Your sound driver & software should begian to install. When it has finished re-start the system. Lastly when the PC has finished loading turn on your speakers. Test for sound.

    Run Windows update.

Installing window 7 on hp650 with suse

Each computer you purchase comes with a Home Edition Windows 7 product, unless otherwise stated in the computer's details. To upgrade your edition, you must purchase a new license key, such as an Enterprise license key. You no longer need to install an upgrade to promote your computer. Instead, Windows 7 has a "Windows Anytime Upgrade" utility that allows you to enter a new license and promote your computer's operating system.

Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "windows anytime upgrade" in the search text box. Press "Enter." This command starts the upgrade wizard for Windows 7. Click the "Windows Anytime Upgrade" option, and select "Enter an Upgrade Key" in the options section. This activates a text box where you type your new license key. Type the Enterprise key in the license text box labeled "Upgrade Key." Click "Next." Windows verifies your license key is valid and tells you that you must wait several minutes to activate your new product license. Click "Reboot" after your new product activates. When you reboot, notice the new product edition "Enterprise" is shown in the Windows splash screen.

Tip

To to reinstall a sound driver on your laptop

  1. Locate an installer for you original sound driver. This can be the biggest issue when one accidentally deletes a sound driver. Computers and sound cards come with driver CDs, but you may not be able to locate the original CD. If you can't find your driver CD, you will have to download the old driver from your computer manufacturer's website or from your sound card manufacturer's website. Use the device manager by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties and then selecting the Hardware tab to look for sound, video and game controllers and to learn more about your sound device.
  2. Delete the currently installed sound driver before reinstalling the old one to avoid conflicts. To uninstall the driver, use the same device manager menu from Step One, select your sound device and click Properties. There should be an option under properties to uninstall the drivers.
  3. Run the auto installer on the original drivers. The installer will take you through several general steps, which will probably only require you to click Next a few times without changing any settings.
  4. Restart your computer when the driver installer is finished.

Get pc powerspeed off of my computer

Click Start/Programs and see if there is a folder for PC Power Speed that has an uninstall option. If so take it. If not, click Start/Control Panel and look for Add or Remove Programs (it might be Programs and Features or Uninstall Programs depending on your operating system). Open it and let it populate the programs then click on it to highlight it and select Uninstall or Remove.

Click Start/Programs and look for the RUN command. You might see it anywhere once you click Programs, or it might be inside the Accessories folder. Click RUN and when it opens up type "msconfig.exe" (without the quotes) then hit ok.

When the System Configuration window opens click the Startup tab. In the Startup Tab we are only concerned with 2 columns, the first column which is the Startup Items and the column that says Command. You can put your mouse pointer between two column headings and it will turn into a +, then hold the left mouse button and drag the column over to the right to expand it so you can read what's below it.

Now everything has a check mark beside it. This means that everytime you start your computer, these items have to load and run.
Look under the first column for PC Power Speed and remove the check mark next to it then click OK and Exit to Restart.

When your computer restarts you want to download and install Malwarebytes and run a Quick Scan.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

I don't get sounddriver for vista

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

I have loptop compaq presario A900/A933TU 17 INCH monitor, sound sytem not working, totally no sound, media device not installed message coming

It seems that the sound drivers on your system are missing.

If you have Windows XP
Go to start
Click on RUN
Type devmgmt.msc
On the device manager screen look for any yellow exclamation mark under other devices or under Sound, video and game controller
Right click on the device listed with yellow exclamation
Uninstall it
Reboot the computer
Go to hp's support website support.hp.com
Enter your Product number in the search box
select the Operating system
Select the Sound / Audio Driver and download it and save it on the desktop
once you download the correct driver just double click the icon on the desktop which is created for the newly downloaded driver software
Follow the onscreen instructions
You might need to reboot the computer to get sound.

P.S. if you are using Vista or Windows 7 you can get device manager by typing devmgmt.msc on start search
