my pc freeze when i set my cpu on default. it did not freeze when i
underclock it to 2.7 ghz from 3.o ghz. It is an intel e 6850. my specs
are e 6850, 8800 gt oc, 2 gb ddr 2 800 5-5-5-31 . my power supply is a
550 watts psu.
You motherboard is probably not compatible with this processor. The Intel 1333 fsb processors require a different voltage regulator than other core 2 duos. Try an updated board BIOS from the asus website. Next look for power supply issues. Make sure the 8 pin connector is connected to your motherboard, and that the PSU has enough amps to run all of your devices. Make sure your RAM is set at it's RATED Voltage and timings. Turn off spread spectrum. Reset the CMOS jumper. These processors will have thermal protection which makes the cpu underclock/volt itself when overheating. Make sure you heatsink has adequate thermal paste evenly distributed between the processor and heatsink. Good Luck

Sounds like a power supply problem to me. Make sure your 8 pin power line is connected to the motherboard, and also see if you have enough amps to run all of your devices. Next, make sure you have an updated BIOS from you boards manufacturer, because the motherboard might not support the new 1333 fsb processors from intel which will underclock themselves if overheated, so heat at defaults is not usually an issue. Next, make sure your RAM is set to it's rated timings and voltage. Try resetting your CMOS jumper. Good luck.

Yeah, i would say the same, Try cleaning oput any dust, make sure the Fan and Heat sink are adequet for that processor.
Intell is known for overheating issues, the only way they can stay ahead of AMD is to clock there CPU's really high, often they over heat, i have this issue with my job where i work on dells all day that have INTEL CPU's they overheat.
Go o a computer store and get a quality cooling fan and heatsinkl for the type of processor youhave. Get one with a higher RPM and a larger heatsink, make sure to use the CPU thermal Grean between the CPU and the heatsink to inssure even contact.

How is your cpu cooler? Sounds like it could be a heat issue. How long before it freezes? Will it actually boot through to the operating system or freeze on start up? If it runs for a while then freezes it sure could be overheating.
