Question about Logitech Cordless Mouse

1 Answer

Mouse has lost its grip! (electrical grip, that is)

I've been using this mouse for a couple years and I love it. However, a few months ago, the left mouse button began acting strangely. When dragging files or whatever one might drag, it will just let go of them wherever it feels like as though I had let off the mouse button. Sometimes it will reclick again, grabbing something else I didn't intend to. More recently, it has been double clicking when I only click once. This is most annoying when I press "back" on a web browser (although I usually use the dedicated back button on the mouse). It is amazing how many places double clicking gives undesired results. Also, the middle mouse button has started losing its grip too. I've only noticed that recently while playing Crysis. Both buttons appear to be getting worse every day.

I am a heavy user. I have used this mouse on several Windows and Linux installations, and never had any problems with it other than this. I am always able to get all my buttons working regardless of OS. I lost my receipt and packaging a long time ago, so I doubt I can get any kind of warranty support. I don't like any other mice on the market right now as much as this one, and it seems silly to have to buy a new one just because of this problem.

I'm wondering if anybody has ever had this kind of problem before. I can't find out anything by doing a Google search... mainly because I don't know exactly what to call this problem. It is probably the contacts under the buttons, and I would like to know if anybody has ever tried opening up the mouse and cleaning the contacts, and if it was successful, before I completely void the warranty by punching a screwdriver through the sticker.

Thanks for your help.

When I use the left mouse button to highlight a sentence and release the left mouse button it fails to remain highlighted. Also when I single click with the same left mouse button it often acts as if I have double clicked. To close a programme it will often close that program plus the one behind it. This is driving me insane. Can you please assist a faithful customer?

Ok. i see your having great time using that mouse and you cared that device for several years. Try open your mouse and carefully remove these buttons of your mouse to clean those dirty stuff stacked on those linings( I believe that you haven't done this before, right?). I believe that this will need to clean a bit to give it back on track again.

ASUS 1000 left mouse button not working

Yes! get a can of compressed air and attach supplied straw, now with your fingernail lift up the left mouse button and give a few good blasts in the crevice, this will clear out any buildup of dirt and grime that has collected, repeat as required. If this fails it will involve laptop service.

My left touchpad key on my dell inspiron 1520 which is 2 years old has suddenly stopped clicking when pressed as though its stuck in. Its really annoying but still works. Can it be repaired?

This seems to be a very common problem.

I had the basic 1-year guarantee from Dell, the left mouse button had been sketchy from about 6 months in, as the end of the year approached I decided to send it in to get the button fixed, didn't get around to doing it until about 355 days after buying [i.e. a few days before the guarantee expired], they collected it, took it away, and brought it back, the button did seemed to have improved slightly, but not much, and within a fortnight was as bad as ever... when I called them to complain they refused to speak to me without a product ID or whatever it was, the minute I told them my greater-than-one-year-old ID they immediately diverted me to some crappy line dedicated at selling me a couple of years' more cover, with no question of anything being done for free... this being the department for people with expired guarantees, it wasn't within their power...

It's a pain but I would say, when you're at a desk use a seperate mouse, the touchpad is useless anyway, and when you're on the go, double tap on the touchpad as a replacement for left quick, you get used to doing it quickly...

On the bottom of the mouse is a small door and it takes two AA batteries.
Normal 0 If the mouse doesn't have a little door to open on the bottom, then try this. Just behind the Left and Right keys where your hand rests, apply firm pressure down on the cover and slide to the rear. Some mouse manufactures have used this type of access to replace the batteries.
Hope this helps. Bud

Yes, unfortunately, although it's normally the mouse that eats batteries (and not cheese, contrary to belief), the only thing to do to give you a little longer is to use re-chargeable batteries. I am convinced batteries nowadays are a poorer quality than a few years ago, no matter who's brand you use.
