My computer monitor is black with a white window that reads "computer going to sleep". I tried holding in the power button and I tried unplugging for 20 seconds. The mouse light is not on. Please advise on how to wake up my computer. Thanks.

Somtimes holding the power button dosent work, you need to tap it as if you wher just turning it on.

There should be a FN key somwhere on the keyboard normally on the bottem left of the keyboard, then up the top you will have the F keys F1,F2, and so on, have a look and see if you can find one with a couple of zz's on it, hold down the FN key then press the F key with the Zz on it and the computer should wake up.

To stop this from happening you will need to go to controll panel and look for the power options, in there you should be able to adjust any sleep mode settings and even stop the computer sleeping.

Monitor going to sleep problem

  • Hi, The Monitor as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both. If this solution to the problem was of help? Let me know by giving a "Helpful Rating", thanks, and have a "Great Memorial Day!"

I have a HP vs17 monitor that keeps going to sleep. It will flash to windows when I first start and immediately goes into sleep mode. When this first happened, I had managed to make sure any sleep modes,...

trixieb1, It's NOT going to sleep mode. Use warranty if possible!! If that not option you will need to read about "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" and the voltage inverters that power them. Learn to do flashlight test when screen goes to black or blank n black!!! Read my fixya profile and those of other ccfl back-lit lcd monitor technicians. We already know what is wrong with your unit. And It is a VERY big problem for all LCD monitor manufacturers. Just do some reading before you do anything else. Good luck with the repair. 12fixlouie

My monitor does not power up when I come out of sleep mode. The screen is either dim going to black or white. I keep having to unplug and replug to get the screen to work.

mishwilly. If monitor will do same thing with different KNOWN GOOD pc, then monitor will need it's "switch-mode-power-supply" fixed. Could also need CCFL inverter circuit checked! Do you have warranty service? Follow the links to other web sites that you find in my FIXYA profile to read about other options open to you. 12fixlouie Read, read, read.

When you start up your computer - on most computers if you press the delete button you will enter the bios - from there find the screen that will put your system to sleep when you power down your computer - this will power down your monitor as well.

My screen is white i hold da sleep an nothing

Try holding both the home button and the power button for 10 seconds. This should hard-stop the phone, and the screen should go black (powered off)

Wait 5 seconds after it's off, and press the power button for 2 seconds to turn it back on.

My screen acts in sleep mode when computer is turned on

It is likely not a problem with the monitor, because the lights indicate that the monitor is turned on.

It may be a video card problem. Do you know if you have a video card, or if it is integrated graphics? Check all of the connections from the monitor to the computer. If you can connect the monitor to another computer and it works, then it is definitely your computer.

Very, very unlikely, but it could be that you're using a damaged cable. If you have another one on hand, try it. If not, don't go and buy one because this likely isn't the problem.

Another thing you could try is turning the computer off, unplugging the power cable (going to your computer), and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Then plug it in again and power it up.
