I have an ipod that is about a year old.
Everytime I connect it to my computer it wants to install the latest version for my iphone. When it starts the process is looks like it is working with the file transfer bar but then when that is done it gives a message...'iphone is backing up' and then just hangs. We have tried this on several computers and it does the same things. We can unplug the iphone and it works fine but we cant get any of the updates and new programs,
try this:
Click here or go to this website:
http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
you will see there 2 selections:
(1) iPod; and
(2) iPhone / iPod touch.
Focus on iPhone / iPod touch and select iPhone 3G (3.1.2/7D11) or iPhone 3G S (3.1.2/7D11) - depending on whether your device is a 3G or a 3G S - and then click download. Tip: it's better if you save it on your desktop.
After the download is finished, open iTunes from your computer, and select your device. You should see the restore button there but before you click it, you must first, hold Alt (or Option) if your using a Mac, or CTRL if your using Windows, once your already holding the appropriate buttons, click restore. This will let you choose what software version you want to restore in your iPhone. So, you must select the one that you just downloaded and click restore.
Now, let me just tell you that "baking up" actually means, creating a back up. It doesn't mean that your iPhone is refusing or moving back. So when you think your iPhone is stuck, just wait a little longer, I mean, do other stuff first and return to your iPhone after 5 or more minutes. Alight...
That should do the trick. Goodluck..
