Question about Canon MP610 Photo All-In-One Printer

MP610 Grinding Sound

I openned up the 610 to change the ink cartridge. I turned it on in the open state and got a loud, grinding sound & then nothing. The monitor says "Turn it off then on again. If the problem persists, see the manual." It won't let me get beyond that. I got a Japanese manual, so I'm coming here with the pproblem. Did I queer the printer? What can I do?

Well..there's most likely something stuck inside in the mechanism..

unplug the printer from everything, turn it upside, down, and gently shake the unit and see if anything falls out.

Canon MX 892 = Printer error has occurred. Turn off power than turn back on. If problem persists see the manual.

The grinding noise would be a clue that something needs to be put right before the reset would work!

Open the cover and check the paper has not jammed or cartridge has not been placed correctly.......remove cartridge and replace! Then turn off power and back on again!

Symptom: Grinding sound.

This could be either your drum cartridge or your fuser unit.

Take your toner cartridge out and look right up front where the drum cartridge empties 'waste toner' back into the toner cartridge.  There's a little flap there that slides back and forth on the very end.  Slide it back and see if toner is packed in there solid.  If so, vacuum it out.  Then you'll have to replace that drum.  Sometimes you can salvage them by cleaning out all the waste toner, but usually the gear in back has already stripped and it's no use.

If everything looks fine with the cartridges, it's probably the fuser.  You can buy a new one here:

http://www.acrat.com/xeroxfuser.htm

The fuser is that part of the machine that gets real hot.  If you open the right side door, it'll be right close to the top.  There are usually 4 screws holding it in place.  If you take those screws out, you should be able to hold it away from the machine while it's running (you'll have to cheat the door).  If the grinding stops as soon as you pull the fuser away, that's probably your problem.

Let me know if any of this sounds too technical.  eric AT essonline.us

Cannon Pixma 610 will not print with the magenta ink. I have used the cleaning utility close to 30 times and still nothing. Changing the cartridge did not help either. Any ideas?

When you said you used the cleaning utility 30 times, it reminded me that cleaning can only be done a few tims before ink is depleted.

When you said that you changed the cartridge and got nothing, it reminded me that one should remove the clear tape on the cartridge before installing the new cartridge, or else no print out will be seen.

If a new cartridge is installed and it still does not print out magenta, then the printer may require service at canonusa.com:

Hp 8180 says carriage jam but there is nothing in there and makes a loud grinding sound..

Look at the thin plastic strip when you open the printer. It may have an ink smudge on it. Use a cloth dampened with water and GENTLY wipe both sided of that strip, moving the cartridge holder across and wiping the entire strip. Then try again. That strip has little lines on it which signal the electronics where the carriage is. If any ink gets on it, the carriage can't count the lines and a jam will occur.

PRINTER MAKES A LOUD SOUND LIKE A MACHINE GUN WHEN IT PRINTS

Turn off the Printer
open the Front access Door, Check if there is bits of paper or dirt on the ROD that moves the Cartrige/carriage.
Move the Carriage freely 5-6 times from left to right ( it should move smoothly )
Remove the Cartridges, Clean the contacts on the Cartridge ( golden Contacts)
Open the Rear Access door, Clean the Rollers with lint free cloth.
Close the Rear access door and front door
Power on the Printer. If the grinding noise continues, Unplug the power cable from back of printer ( while printer is on ) and while holding the # and 6 button, connect it back.
It should go thru alignment process and the grinding noise should be gone. If it doesnt, probably.. its time for new printer of HP again.

Lexmark C510 is making grinding noises while printing large jobs

I found another posting stating that the culprit was the black toner cartridge. Sure enough I changed our black cartridge and the grinding noise has stopped. No wonder the grinding noise was not happening all the time only when the black cartridge got low. Thanks for the help!

Brother MFC-9420CN Paper Jam Error message w/ loud grinding noiz

please try this

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

HP 3310 printer

I took it to Best Buy where it was purchased and was told it was not worth it to repair unless I had the extended warranty which I did not. So it went to the dead printer recycle bin.

Makes loud sounds

I had the same problem with the loud grinding sound. The gears on the cartridge(s) is not turning but rather stripping creating a grinding sound. Reinstall all of the toner cartridges. If that doesn't work, pull each cartridge out and manually turn the gear on the cartridge. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase a new toner cartridge.

Printer makes a loud grinding sound when trying to print

I am pretty sure there is a 90 day warranty but you should call Del to find out. You can try lifting the cover where the ink cartridges are. Look and make sure there is nothing obstructing the print head from going left to right. Also, make sure the cover holding the ink cartridge is snapped down tight. Good luck John
