Diagnosing Clutch/Tranny problem

I recently posted a question about my problem with my Roper Top Loading Washer - RAS7233KQO - with it not spinning. I used different posts and articles on how to take apart my washer to diagnosis the problem. I checked the timer and the lid switch and they are not the problem. I watched to see if the clutch was turning on a spin cycle. It did. I then removed the agitator, checked the drive shaft, removed the spanner nut and the inner basket, checked the drive block, everything looked fine. No noticable damage. I then removed the pump, motor, and checked the motor coupling. Everything again appears fine. I did notice small amounts of a golden copper oil slightly dripping around the transmission. I am assuming this would be transmission fluid?? I dropped the transmission and found that when I spin the transmission input shaft clockwise, it spins the drive shaft. It does not spin when I turn it counter-clockwise. I don't know if that is normal or it is a sign the transmission is bad? Can someone give me some ideas on diagnosing this problem? I have also read that this problem may be the clutch. How can I visual inspect the clutch and the transmission? What kind of damage should I be looking for? Is there any other part that might be the problem? Also, since I have the whole thing taken apart, is it best just to replace the whole transmission? Is replacing it just the opposite of what I did to take it off? I need some help on what to do now?

RAS7233KQO washer wont spin and makes a grinding. noise

Hi, without knowing exactly what the sound sounds like its hard to tell.If the drum trys to spin this could be the sound of a slipping clutch. If it doesnt it could be the transmission doesnt go into gear. If the sound is more dull the motor coupling. The coupling is the cheapest fix, then clutch, then trans. If your handy there not too difficult to change.

Roper washing machine won't spin

If this is a TOP LOADING washing machine, a no spin problem is commonly caused by either a lid switch malfunction or a broken motor coupling. The following link explains how to diagnose the problem:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3965207-whirlpool_top_loader_no_spin_problem

Pay particular attention to the symptoms and it should be easy to determine which component may be causing your problem. If you aren't sure, please post back and let me know, so I can assist you further. Please include your MODEL NUMBER when posting questions.

There are other problems that can cause a no spin problem, such as a worn gearcase (transmission), broken clutch or a bad timer. However, the two components I mention are the MOST COMMON fail items and the LEAST EXPENSIVE to repair. If you check your washer and the lid switch and motor coupling are both fine, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

The washer tub on my Roper washer does not spin during rinse cycle. The motor coupling seems to be OK.

RAS7233KQO fills and agitates but then will not drain, rinse, or spin

1 of two possible issues, either you pump is clogged, you would the hear a buzz and possible smell a burner smell while the unit is running, or 2 you have a broken lid switch....open and close the lid slowly and see if you hear a click, if not you lid switch needs to be replaced.
