I am having the same problem. I try to turn it on and it repeatedly says "turn the camera off and then on again", I do and nothing! Per the manual it says probably force was applied to the lense at some point. Ok but what is the solution?

I have the same problem , message repeatedly telling me to turn camera off and on again. I've only had the camera a month!

  • Anonymous Nov 16, 2008

I had the same problem, after 1 week using the camera. I bought it as an open box item at FutureShop in Vancouver. I returned it and exchange for other new, closed box, same model. One year later it's working very well. So, beware the dishonest vendors! Ask why the item was returned before purchasing it!

I dropped the camera a few months ago and this problem ensued. I was able to fix it by twisting the lense a little further as it rotated. Not the most scientific method, but as the last blogger said - it cost as much to fix as buying a new one.

panasonic DMC-FS20, in AI mode the lens will not retract when turning off. When turning on the lens retracts then extends, the live view comes on the lcd screen then a message comes up "turn off camera and then on again. This happens repeatedly.

the message "please turn camera off and then on again" keeps appearing was told it needs a new inner zoom lens barrel which is almost the same price as a new camera is there a cheaper solution

Not sure whether you'd call it a solution, but I took my battery out then put it back a couple of times and the camera started working normally again!

See if helping the lense to extend will prevent this message.

I had the same problem of it turning on then off. i fixed it by using a shop vac and sucking the lens out a few times. it works now but does make a little more noise starting up but its still cheaper than buying a new camera.

I have the so problem. Since I bought my camera only 6 months ago, I sent it back for warranty repair. They returned it unrepaired, telling me that the problem is not theirs. Apparently, it is caused by internal corrosion. I don't know how the corrosion got in there. Any suggestion on what can be done, short of throwing the camera away, and buying a new one (not Panasonic, for sure).

Card Reader Error

There's a slide switch on one edge of the SD card. Slide it away from the contacts. If that doesn't work, there's a problem with the mechanism inside the camera that detects the switch position.

Panasonic tz3 cover gets stuck

Common problem with TZ3. You can try to lub lens cover using graphite lub. Use it sparingly and after lens works, wipe off excess with dust cloth. Be sure not to get any on lens itself.

If lub doesn't work, you can pull out the lens cover altogether and find a manual lens cap the will fit.

The other option is to sell it on ebay to a repairman in a auction and replace it with another working used ones. Keep your accessories and by a used one cheap without accessories.

Aerial photos

My DMC-TZ3 always displays this message when in aerial mode - I would think that Panasonic programmed this into the setting.  You might never have noticed the message before or never used the aerial mode before ??
