Question about HP OfficeJet 6210 All-In-One InkJet Printer

"Scanner Failure" message

When trying to copy or scan, control panel message is "Scanner Failure - power down and restart".  And simultaneously an error message on my computer screen pops up, which says "The automatic document feeder is empty".  This happens when attempting to copy or scan from the glass.
Curiously, when attempting to copy using the automatic document feeder, it works!
Printing from the computer works fine.
Anyone have any ideas???

I have an HP OfficeJet 6210 and when I scan directly from the glass I get and error "Scanner Failure, Power Off and ON". If I scan with the lid down and use the feeder, all is well. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

By the way, I went through all the HP reccommended steps to correct this problem.

I am trying to scan from the glass flat bed. When I enter the HP Image Zone to scan, the scanner starts to move then it stops with an error "Scanner error ... turn off and on again". I have done this several times and it continues to come up with the same error.

My HP Photosmart C5240 will print from computer but will not scan or make copies.

Is there any error message displayed on the control panel of the printer just like one of the following:
Scanner failure, power off and on
Scanner System Failure
Scanner failed, cannot make copies or fax
Scanner failure. Unable to scan, copy, or send a fax
Scanner failure, cycle power

You may want to try following these steps:
1. Check if the scanner light does turn on when you initiated the scanning process, if not you need to reset the product.
2. Try using your other electrical outlet because your AVR or Surge Extension may not be providing enough voltage for the printer.
3. Try using dirty cycle, meaning you need to directly cut the power of your printer by pulling of the power cord from the rear side of your printer and wait for about 30 seconds before inserting again and turn it on.

If all these steps do not improve your printer functionality, you may want to call the HP online help and ask for replacement.

If your sacnner still fails to function, uninstall everything for the Officejet through add/remove in control panel. (Power off printer before uninstalling).
Go to Hp's web site. http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/welcome.html#Support
Step 1. Click, Download drivers and software (and firmware).
Go to step 2. For product, type in Officejet k60xi .
Power on your printer. (Wait for printer to fully power on).
Click, Start Detection>> button.
Allow HP to scan your system & install the latest software.
Follow the on scren instructions. (When finished, restart your PC). Test your scanner by scanning something.
If your scanner still fails to scan, you may be missing basic HP files loaceted in windows system & windows system32 folders.
(These missing files were not installed during your install of windows). Not your fault.
