I have only had my hoover since the end of may and have only used it 3 times. My husband was the last to use it, however; he had only used the hand tool for my stairs. But I went to use it today and the brushes wont spin. I even tried to spin them manually and they wouldnt budge. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I recieved my Hoover Steam Vac. as a Mothers Day gift in may, used it once and 3 months later tried to use it agian and the brushes would not spin.

I am having the same problem with my steam vac, BUT one thing that I noticed is that there is plenty of suction in the intake. Wouldn't that suggest that the turbine is working fine? Maybe a belt? But I can't find the belt, just a tan plastic kinda Y shaped cover that I can't figure out how to remove. Help anyone?

I haven't had my Hoover steam Vac not even a yr. It has cause me more problems. First it was the nozzle was cracked & hoover sent me a new one, but U can't remove the old nozzle, so I took it to a repair shop & they wouldn't touch it because evertime they tried to remove it , it broke & they had to replace the carpet cleaner. Now they brushes won't rotate, I did everthing the manuel & no brushes rotate. It is to worse s carpet cleaner & have ever bought, too many problems!!!

Ours the switch got stuck in the off position and would not budge. I finally had to take the tanks off the unit and lay the handle back. Using a small screwdriver as a pry bar I stuck the driver into the area where the switch was and felt for the mechanism. With both the screwdriver and the actual switch I was able to finally get it to move into the HI position where now it is stuck. At least it cleans floors and the brushes stop spinning when you put the handle up and it's in Tools mode. This is the 2nd hoover steamvac I've owned and the other one the brushes stopped completely as you guys mentioned. Once this unit dies I will make sure to purchase a different product next time, Hoover's had 2 shots with me and that's more than enough.

"I did some research online and the recurrent theme was a bad turbine assembly. Fortunately I was able to fix this myself which took about 2 hours (some reading) and little effort. The problem was with the turbine which is fairly simple and had a bearing that had rusted and froze up. Removing the cover proved to be more difficult than fixing the stuck bearing. This was mostly due to figuring out the correct screws to remove and finally discovering that the back of the cover (over the wheels) is not secured by fasteners but by pegs that "pop" out.

Once I had the brush assembly and Cover removed the turbine came out with the removal of some obvious screws and gently pulling the hoses from the assembly. After carefully opening the assembly housing I discovered the bearing problem and with a little lubrication and some new grease had it working in short order. Putting everything back together was simple as well."

this worked for me. although once i got in i just had to mess around with the gears and loosen them up. getting in was the hard part soo here you go peoples.

take off tanks

unscrew 6 screws fom underneath machine. look carefully

just underneath where the dirty tank goes right by the part that sucks everything up is a screw. unscrew it

pop off the switch for your spin scrub mode. it pops right back on.

make sure your locks for the tank are turned in

then the back just pops off. you might have to give it a good tug. there are no screws although it maight look like there is.

then pull off the grey part.

once inside it is pretty easy.

but if you have any questionbs email at lostnhisblueyes@aol.com

i took off so many more screws than i needed to to get this figured out so dont do that.

I have the Hoover F7210-900 and experienced the same problem of brushes not turning. It started less than a year after purchase with moderate spot use (keeping up after my new puppy). Since I procrastinated and missed the warrantee window I did some research online and the recurrent theme was a bad turbine assembly.

Putting everything back together was simple as well.

Now if I can only figure out how to open up the front nozzle so that I can clean out all the dirty carpet fibers!

Most likely a bad wire or thee motor may have blown for that part of the machine.

Well if you do end up with a new one, think Aerus FloorPro.... It has a 5 yr warrant, hard floor kits are available, and it is a dry foam process. It is actually the only method guaranteed to NOT void your warranty on your carpet. Also I have 6 kids, a large pitt bull, and if it can de-stain my rugs..... Well just say it has a glowing endorsement.....

Turbine assembly is bad. Get part #23 here http://www.vacuumcleanershop.com/hvrmdlf7205900.htm#B2
Not to bad to put in.
You can also find them on Ebay cheaper.

Why does the brush continue to rotate on bare floor setting as well as using hose attachments?

Hello! The brush roll shut-off feature is on select models. Your vacuum may or may not have this feature. If it does not, the brushes will continue to rotate while hose is removed or in use and at all times while cleaner is on. The vacuum must be in the upright position to lift rotation brush off the carpet when cleaning above the floor. Be sure the vacuum does not tilt forward when doing above floor cleaning. Hope this was helpful!

Brush motor reset button? Clean out brush.

1 Answer

The brushes do not disengage when in upright position

Set the brush control, as needed. The brush control turns the brushbar on the underside of the vacuum on and off. The button is located beside the power button, on the top-front of the vacuum cleaner. Turn on the brush control for cleaning carpet. Turn off the brush control for bare floors or delicatelb_icon1.png rugs..

Brushes don't rotate during floor cleaning

Check that no strings or other debris is clogging the brush wheels. If it isnt that check that the belt isnt broken connecting the brush to the motor. If that is ok, most likely the motor is blown and not turning the belt.

Roomba 550 dust bin always empty but filter and brushes always need cleaning. doesn't seem to clean as well as in the beginning

Sounds like you either have a very clean floor, and only dust remains OR, you have dust and baby powder on the floor clogging the hepa filter. THIS time wash the filter with water, then check for blockage in your waste gate area.

Problem: Brushes/brush indicator
won’t rotate during floor cleaning

Possible solution
• Not firmly plugged in
• Plug unit in firmly
• No voltage In wall plug
• Check fuse or breaker
• Blown fuse/tripped breaker
• Replace fuse/reset breaker
Possible cause
Possible solution
• Recovery tank full/automatic
shut off engaged
• Remove and empty recovery tank

• Remove tool and clear blockage
• Recovery tank lid not on
correctly

• Recovery tank front panel not

cleaning

Before using tool
It may be necessary to remove air from
the system (“prime the pump”) so the
clean solution will flow to the tool. Follow
these steps:
1. Attach tool to hose and turn the carpet
cleaner ON.
2. Put the tool on a hard surface or
against your hand to block off the suction.
3. Wait a few seconds (can take up to
15 seconds). Then squeeze the trigger
and begin cleaning.

GOODLUCK!!!!

Just purchased Floor Mate. It will not dispense cleaning solution. It will pick up water on floor and vacuum. Brushes rotate, no other problem.

Either a problem with the valve at the bottom of the tank, or where it sits is called the reservior asm, a rod in the handle hits to release the water, so your problem could be in that area. But you have a years warranty on it, take it to a warranty repair shop for repair.
